Disappointed. Should have been 8!

Yesterday was Southampton's annual 9-0 - they're just lucky we declared at 4!

What do you guys do with the youths who stick a high vis on and charge you a £5 to park on the road? Normally we chuck them £5 be done with it, but were there early today before they'd rocked up, then started getting grief off one of them when we were trying to strap a little one in the car seat when we were leaving, so told the scrounging little rat to fuck off.

So probably get a big key mark down the car next time?
This doesn’t happen. No one charges £5 when people park on the road. Tell me which road and I will pass it on the the local councillor.

Vicarage Road, same couple of lads are always there.

That's been going on for decades - I can remember parking in the street the other side of the park back in the 90s and there being kids asking for money to "watch your car mate".

I didn’t think there was much between the teams, in fact I thought they looked more assured with the ball and us a little sloppy and lacking intensity. Apart from the final third when we had Phil and they didn’t. One of the best individual performances you’ll see in a long time.

For what was a game between teams of a similar standard, we wouldn’t have been flattered to have won 7:0.
I don’t think they looked particularly like scoring - we were better in the final 3rd and more solid in defence then them (clearly) - but they kept the ball much better in midfield.  I think all of our midfielders are attack minded - too often looking for killer balls where there’s were better at keeping the ball.  It worked for us yesterday but we could do with learning when to keep the ball

Our trick back in the day was always to say 'we'll pay you after the game if it's all in one piece'. They'd always be nowhere to be seen come 5pm.

We need to do whatever it takes to keep Coutinho. As much as I loved watching Grealish play for us, he was never and will never be at that level - an absolute joy to behold.

What a day that was. Coutinho looked every bit the player Barcelona paid 140 million for. He cut Southampton to ribbons with his intricate passing and he's single handedly turning JJ into a player that England can't ignore. I was on a corporate thingy in the North Stand and got talking to a saints fan after the game who was mightily impressed with the Villa and Villa Park it was his first visit. I don't know if it's been covered on here yet but about an hour after the match SG came onto the pitch with his family and had a kick about and that was quite something to see.

What a superb performance against one of the form teams in the league, nobody had a poor game. Yesterday showed Ings and Watkins can work in some matches, thought Chambers was very impressive, I'm a Konsa fan, but it would be very hard on Callum if he was left out against Leeds on that display. The question is, is there a better player in the league at the moment than Phil, the answer is no.

Bizarrely I didn’t think we were that convincing and Southampton had long spells in that game where they were the better team, but when you have players like Phil…….

Southampton did have some good spells but I thought our defense played well when needed. They had very few clear cut chances (though they did have a couple).

There was a welcome no-nonsense approach to defending yesterday

Coutinho made the job simpler for D.Luiz the way he took the pace of the ball and put it nicely in front of him. Made it look it easy. That’s not to take anything from Luiz. Was really glad to see him score and hopefully that'll give him more confidence.

That touch just screamed 'Brazilian', maybe it was his body shape but as you say he made it look easy. Agree on Dougie too, he looked like he was actually enjoying himself rather than looking laboured.

Southampton had the ball for long periods, as borne out by the possession stats, but I wouldn't say at any point I thought they were the better side. For most of the first half we were still giving the ball away needlessly, but on the positive side we seemed quite adept at stopping a side that were on a long run of good form from getting anything going. If that front three of ours can maintain those levels of workrate and interplay, they'll blow better sides than So'ton out of the water. We genuinely looked like scoring every time we ventured past the centre circle.
