I definitely want Everton to go. But us to beat Burnley twice still.

We were seven points from safety with four to play a couple of years back and stayed up. Seemingly doomed teams can survive.

Personally I think we'll win at least one of the next three and that will be that.

It was four points from safety with 4 games left. And we didn't reel in anybody sat 8 points above the drop zone who also had a game in hand. The 4 teams in the last 4 places with 6 games left were the teams who finished in the bottom 4 at the end of the season, we just did enough to turn around a one point deficit to Watford who helpfully sacked their manager, to finish a point above them.

Regardless of this mini revival it will be Burnley going down not Everton.

Everton are worried that's for sure.  They will be slaughtered by Liverpool this weekend and Chelsea after that.

I see the next 3 as a great opportunity. I'm looking forward to tomorrow, there seems something proper about it all. I understand the concerns, I think they're exaggerated and far too much time is spent dwelling on fear than on opportunity. The season has been annoyingly frustrating nonetheless.

Yeah, I used to be a bit of an optimist too. Then reality (or something) struck and it appears I've swapped places with Risso! :-)

This is the first season in a few where we've potentially gone backwards, and I don't like it. We have the ability to beat anyone, that's the disappointing thing.

Another scenario tomorrow: We lose at Leicester, which is quite likely and Burnley beat Wolves, then the gap is only 5 points with Villa to play Burnley twice. It doesn't take much for a points cushion to evaporate rapidly.
lol...There is a reason why Burnley are and have been in bottom 3 all season. They are not turning into barca 09/10 overnight.

The inescapable truth is that Gerrard has placed us in our current predicament at this juncture. I think we are safe but, bloody hell, being 15th and fretting about other teams results is a terrible indictment of Gerrard’s performance so far.
Gerrard alone?
YES. He took on the job to improve us and he signed two quality players to make us a better team but he is failing miserably ATM.

No it wouldn't.

No, I know. I was being facetious. Do you think we'll get top half?

I think it largely depends on tomorrow, which is starting to feel like a mini cup final. If we beat Leicester I think we'll get a massive confidence boost and then use that to batter Norwich. At that point we would be top half (on points per game anyway) so then it would just be about matching or bettering the results of the other midtable teams like Brighton etc.

On the other hand, lose and all hell starts to break loose. It would be very hard to finish top half then, and I'm fairly certain all the "Smith was sacked for a similar run" comments would start. Gerrard needs at least a draw really, and a good performance.

I don't even think Gerrard's doing a great job at the moment, I just think that there are reasons for it, but all of the doommongering on here is ridiculous, and probably still a hangover from Smith being sacked.

It's more to do with the constant losses and the banishment of a chunk of the squad in order to play a system that isn't working.

For the avoidance of doubt, I don't believe for a second that Burnley will catch us and, even if they do, I imagine they will have caught other teams as well.

However, re our great escape, both Watford and West Ham won the day before we played Palace so at that point we were seven points adrift with four (for us) to play. I accept that they only had three to play.

The talk before the Palace game was when we would go down, not if we would stay up. Nobody thought we'd get 8 points from the last four. Great days, sort of.

If they do then I’m pretty sure our owners will question whether they made the right appointment
