I'm really concerned about our forward options at the moment though. Offside or not, Watkins should have buried that header, and he should have stuck that one away just before Pickford knocked him over. How long does Gerrard give Watkins and Ings before he starts thinking we need better?

I’d imagine he’s already considering replacing at least one of them if not both.

Again found myself thinking Watkins isn’t good enough.

An off day for sure. That’s all I’m putting it down to. Put it this way, he’s no worse than Calvert-Lewin who West Ham want.

Yes but... having a genuine goal scoring forward is the holy grail but not easy to achieve. I think our recruitment team has been absolutely right in picking up a potentially great forward when signing Watkins  and  also correct in getting Danny Ings, a proven goal scorer in the Premier League. Watkins has not improved from the initial promise and rest of the season will show if he has the necessary quality to work away from his current natural strengths that the opposition analysers have picked up and nullified to a large extent. Great players with real quality always find another way.

I’m thinking the same, sure there are better forwards out there than Ollie but most are playing CL football. He’s a bit off form bit there is more to come, he’ll be fine.

Think Watkins misses his comfort blanket Smith.  He also isn’t exactly quick to go and celebrate goals not scored by him.

Copious amounts of wine consumed, ie getting my excuses in early, but from Twitter it looks like Watkins & Cash made their way home by train. ????

Yep, they were on the same 15:47 Euston train as us. Said they were going to see family, although the picture of Watkins watching a pole dancer later in the evening would suggest otherwise.

Why do you ignore the possibility that the pole dancer could be a family member? ;)

Perhaps it was a family night out watching pole dancing. Have you considered that?

DCL was absolutely useless yesterday, worse than Watkins even. Worst player on the pitch. Everton are in huge trouble.

More plausible if it were Matty Cash.

Why we went so defensive in the 2nd half I don't know, we hardly showed any attacking intent at all, but in the end Everton, for all their dominance in that half, only had 1 shot on target, so credit to the players for that.

Buendia was superb and when Coutinho gets up to speed, along with JJ and SJM, we are gonna have some midfield. Mings had a strange game, a mixture of absolute dominance and some stupid mistakes.

We seem to forget he has a newish born baby. I well remember being so tired as a new dad. Fatherhood is wonderful but can also be very demanding.
