He played well, as he did at City, but his lack of presence seems to spook the players.
A well trodden accusation which I deem to have had its day.
Yes indeed. No reality just perception built on past experience.

The first goal was almost entirely down to Luiz being sloppy.

Emi might or might not have got Gallagher' shot if he was 100% fit, but then he is also world number one so I don't hold Olsen not getting something on it against him.

Olsen stopped a near certain winner from Palmer.
A one on one save which saved the game.
Robin Olsen the worlds number two!

As soon as he started warming up at half time I just knew we were in trouble. Probably not too much he could do about the goals but we just don’t play the same with him in goal and he needs to be moved on asap.
I don't get why he needs to be moved on, unless Emi's clone is waiting in the wings.

Sure, there was the mix up between him and Diego Carlos which on watching later was his fault (and he redeemed himself with the save) but seriously, who is the incredible, perfect goalkeeper that are we going to sign that'll be happy to play second fiddle to Emi?

I do wonder if Gaucci will be the man brought in next season.
He hasn't been in squads lately and wonder if he's available?

Whenever he plays the defence goes to shit. As I said before, he couldn’t do much about the goals tonight and to be fair he did make a very good save.
But….he’s not the worlds number 2 and if we do get 4th place I’m sure there are better keepers who would be more than happy to play second fiddle.

To be fair, Colin, I'm not so sure you're right.

Maybe in twenty years, if we're where Real Madrid, Bayern, Juve and the like are then maybe, but not right now.

Hey no problem, It really is a difficult one as Emi is so good. But from my perspective the defence changes as soon as he comes on as does the crowd.
IMO he has to go.

We prob won't get one of the world's top 20 or 30 keepers as back up to Emi, it's true.

But I'd be amazed if the scouting department haven't already found a better option than Olsen.

We all have our thoughts on this.

All I'd say is think about Man United in their pomp. Peter Schmeichel in goal (ignore he was a stone overweight and generally gash for us after he'd returned from Portugal). Whenever Schmeichel was unavailable they routinely turned to Raymond van der Gouw. Never heard of him otherwise. Not sure if he ever got any caps for his native Netherlands. My point is there wasn't a top-class keeper standing in at Manyoo even when they were at their best.

It really is a difficult one.

Alternatively, a shit hot young goalie from a second or third rate league would die for the opportunity to learn under the WN1 and get the occasional game.

It's prob not the hard sell some are making it out to be.

Ok, I’m trying to fair, but in all honesty Olsen is shit and we can do far better.

But won't this be a problem for any reserve goal keeper? Gauci might get a pass early on because of his youth, but he also isn't Emi.

What's Gaucci's name, again?
