That’s a fair point regards the stats and ratio of footed players .
I don’t have a leg to stand on unlike a left back who only uses a right foot to stand on.

On this occasion I concede I grossly overarched on the left footer availability.
Yes indeed if there are less left footed players then it stands to reason your argument.

Very well put.

Lucas Digne: “I feel like I’m playing the best football of my career. I am constantly progressing. It’s a great feeling to constantly improve thanks to experience, optimal physical fitness & thirst for success. I loved this season, whether with Aston Villa or with France. I think I played 50 games this season, in club & in the national team, but even if it’s late in the season, I still have fresh legs & I love playing football, so I don’t need summer holidays.”

“When I chose to join Villa, I saw a big project. I came here to help a very big historic club find the top of English football & return to Europe. My dream was to make fans relive the exceptional European evenings of Villa Park & we did it. These evenings are magical & I am proud that we have succeeded.

“I’m happy at Aston Villa, but I only have one year left on the contract, so I don’t know what will happen in my next chapter. I don’t think about it, because I only have one goal — I just want to finish the season well, enjoy my football, always work hard & give the best of myself so that my team continues to be successful.”

I think it's a three-way tie for the left back position in my all time Villa XL between Wright, Staunton and Digne.

Freddie Bouma was really settling in at left-back before that terrible knee injury.

It wasn't his knee, it was his ankle. I still feel my stomach turn every time i think about the sight we had at the front, directly in line with him when that happened.

I'd add Colin Gibson and Tony Dorigo to the left back list, hopefully Maatsen gets on there also. We've had some terrific left backs.

Great words from Digne. I used to think he was a bit of a showpony but under Emery, been so impressive. He deserves a new deal.

Would try a 12 month extension for Luca, think he has been one of the best players we have had this season.

Appreciate the high wages he is on, but worth it to carry on with him for the next couple of seasons

If I were him, I'd tell us to sod off if we offered him 12 months. There's probably a decent three year contract waiting for him somewhere, and at this point in his career that's probably what he'd be focused on.

That's not to say that we should be the ones offering him that though.

Three year deal on £100k/week. Reduced wage but for a longer duration.

Something like that might suit all parties.
