I voted for him as player of the season last year. I've said it multiple times, but I'll say it again. The way he committed himself to the team after being packed and ready to go home to France as the window was closing. He stayed, he knuckled down, and he kept Moreno out of the side, and is now one of the first names on the team sheet. I get the feeling we wouldn't tolerate sulking or diva behaviour, but it's a credit to him that he's gone from expendable to a core part of the team. 100% the attitude you'd want from a player.

Of this century -Honourable mention to Luke Young who played left back at times. No left back ever comes over to play right back as they are so left footed.
I always thought Hourihane could have played left back and McGinn would be a good left back.

Konsa and Ashley Young neither a left back have played internationally at left back!

The bold bit, as I'm sure I've told you before, is utter bollocks, left-footed players are in no way less technically adept, it's all about experience and opportunities.

There are far less left-footed players that right footed and, until fairly recently, if you were a leftie most coaches would automatically move you to the left side of the pitch. This doesn't happen with right-footed players to the same extent because when you have 8-9 of them in the team you can't be so picky. That means that players are far more restricted in gaining experience across the pitch if they're left-footed through a bias that still exists (and is perpetuated by comments like yours).

We have started to see more and more teams move to having a left-footed right winger in the last 25-30 years but a huge amount of those players stil lcame through as left-sided and were only moved once they were around senior football (Think players like Salah, Bale and Saka who were all left-sided when they got their first taste of senior football).

The point still stands Digne couldn’t play right back and most if not all left backs play left side and left side only. So they are positionally rigid and technically being so over reliant on one foot means as a left back play will then by design have limitations.
Can agree to disagree but I don’t ever see Digne or even Maasten playing right back for Villa so think  that proves the argument .

Left footed players don't get moved to right back much because there's rarely any need for it, a couple of injuries and a right footed CB or DM will slot in there. At left back there are generally far fewer options so a right back shifting across is much more likely to happen. That all it is. If you swapped every full-back in the league to play on the wrong side for a season I guarantee the number that struggled or adapted would be even, it's just that the need for that isn't equal and the chances of needing a left back to swap sides is tiny.

Given about 8-10% of people are left footed the fact that so many footballers are lefties is far more noteworthy than whether they are able to play on the right or not.
