Was it Newcastle at home where Moreno absolutely ripped them a new one for 90 minutes?

Yes, an outstanding performance

I am very pleased Lucas stuck with the club and earned his place in the squad.  For me he's been a really good signing.  Wages get mentioned a lot, but I suspect he's pretty average for the first 11 now.

Although it wasn't just him. The whole team did everytime we went forward.

We were poir in both games vs Newcastle last year. The first one with mings injury obviously had a impact on the team.

The home game we were just awful. We played nothing like we did the previous season where we absolutely destroyed them

Alex crashed into the post á la Phil Babb against Newcastle at VP this year. Hurt ego, bruised nuts.

Although a certain ex-manager thought we played very well and the score line wasn't representative of the play we did.

The money we paid for Digne at the time seemed a lot. But in hindsight given how he has played the last 12 months and how he perfectly fits in the Emery system he’s been a bargain relative to what PL players go for. But as importantly he has fully embraced the culture and is a leader at the club. He’ll be replaced by Maatsen in time but he’ll be remembered when he does leave as an invaluable player in our journey to a top PL and European side.

The thing with Digne, is that we paid European team money for a left-back capable of playing for a team in Europe, while still being a lower-mid table side. That always felt excessive.  But today, he's absolutely fine.  As others have said, he's probably not even in our top half-dozen earners now, so while his wages were a lot to pay for a player who the manager didn't choose himself, he's obviously done more than enough to convince Unai and the coaching staff that he has a big part to play this season.

I still think he'll be on his way next summer (with one year left on his contract), but I imagine Maatsen will likely be comfortable as our first-choice by then, and he'll probably want to go somewhere and play more often.

I like how he has never seemed phased when there's been competition for his place. He's worked hard and played very well.

He's turned out to be a good addition. Like others have said, I think it'll be his last season for us.

Assuming he'll see some Champions League minutes for us, we'll be the fifth different team he's played Champions League football for. Can't be many players who've done that (or bettered it).

He certainly proved me wrong.

I was happy to let him leave last summer, mostly due to his wages, but also because I wasn't convinced of his overall ability.

But last season, he was excellent when he played & took his place back from Moreno with dignity & skill.

So fair play to him for that.

Our LB is covered well this season with him & Maatsen.

^ I think I made an argument for Digne as player of the season for those same reasons. Especially considering he was literally on his way out of the club until the last minute change of plans.
