My twopenneth worth. I am sick of us being a soft touch and a club that in the last two decades has by and large punched below its weight. We are Aston Villa but we have grown an increasing inferiority complex to the extent that commentators can routinely claim that teams like Brentford would target games against us as opportunities for points.

We have the most fantastic owners and have never had a better opportunity to become heavyweights again, but we are stuck in a cycle of underachievement and shrugging our collective shoulders at defeats like Sunday’s. The club needs a culture change alongside the money and ambition. It is still a cosy place to earn a living - and I want Gerrard to be the one to finally change it please.

I'd like to rant about you lot and this thread.
OK so we lost to a club normally so low down the football pyramid that even in the early 70s we didn't need to play them.
Now you all want Gerrard sacked. Before he arrived none of you wanted him here and you said you were underwhelmed, but we get him so you all say you're whelmed, he gets a couple of results and you're all overwhelmed and we're heading for the chumps league. But now we lose to Fulham reserves (again) and you're all weepy about the good old days with Deano.
That highly respected Arsenal legend David O'Leary was right, you're all fickle !

Brentford, a town in West London we never knew existed until 5 or so years ago.

I knew about it, and nearly bought a flat there. It's not its fault, it's ours.

I agree, a really good series. Set in Brentford but much of it filmed in a now demolished block in nearby Acton.

The Premier League aka 'The Greatest League In The World' is currently being run away with by a team that takes away spontaneity, joy, excitement and jeopardy and replaces it with a passionless, ruthless, relentless dirge.

A team that complains about the tiredness of their players when they have a £100 million player getting splinters in his arse on the bench...and they don't have the wit to see it.

A team owned by an oil rich nation state that believes that they exist in a level playing field.

Watching Man City in the flesh it is impossible not to be impressed by their grim technical superiority whilst at the same time feeling all of the oxygen being sucked out of the stadium so that fans watching them are rendered speechless, struggling to breathe, scarcely sure whether they are actually still alive.

Man City present a fascistic version of football, a brutal destructive evil force which if left unchallenged will destroy everything in its path.

Villa by contrast are wonderfully imperfect, a living, breathing embodiment of life itself in all of its messy, unpredictable, sometimes appalling, sometimes wonderful glory.

Villa is alive and long may it be so.

This is an absolutely beautiful summary of my feelings.

My rant is well-worn territory, but in our time away from the Premier League the shift to the league becoming "THE MAGNIFICENT SIX (and 14 other clubs nobody cares about)" is sickening and ridiculous.

It was always there, but it's now permeated every aspect of the game at large. Every football related TV programme, podcast, YouTube video and article is about the same 6 clubs and any mention of the" other 14" is a condescending nod to the plucky little teams that are competing against the MIGHTY Spurs/Gunners/Citeh et al.

I really wonder what our owners must be thinking about how on earth they can possibly turn us into anything other than also-rans when the entire narrative is so laser-focused on "the big 6" and the way in which even the lad who bled claret and blue is plucked away when one of the "big boys" come running.

The Grealish transfer is in fact a great example of this, that the talking heads genuinely couldn't comprehend why our fans didn't fall to their knees in joy that one of our players had been summoned to play for "an elite club".

I wish they'd all f--k off to the super-league and let us get on with it.

I'm fed up with being crap. Potentially eleven seasons without a top half finish and 26 without a trophy. When I think of the the teams I grew up with in the 90s I feel sorry for kids who've only experienced this last decade.

Every time we seem to have turned a corner we slam into reverse.  It's almost as though we're scared of what might be ahead.

End of rant.

This is like Liverpool in the 80's until the backpass rule was implemented.

Flatter to deceive - 'appear promising but ultimately disappoint'.

We should be called Flatter to Deceive FC.

We have so many ingredients of a massive club but not the winning mentality. From top to bottom, we tolerate mediocrity, losing and disappointment far to easy. Okay, we moan and sulk for a few days but do feck all about it. We need a winning mentality and fast.

Given time, Gerrard and our owners can instill that mentality. They are proven winners and should tolerate nothing less. I hope they weed out any players who are not 100% committed to winning and only buy players who will not tolerate defeat. Without a 'never say die' attitude from all our players we will never win anything.

Buy winners not losers. We shop around the relegated clubs too much. They are losers. Shop around the top clubs instead, they have massive squads and hoards of winners in their midst. Let's rattle their cage. For 100 milion, Man City not only got fuck features but they also stopped an emerging Club in its tracks. We need to think like this if we are ever going to break in to the top 4 again.

I live miles away now but my brother is still a season ticket holder. He blames our fans. Instead of cheering all the time they put the fear of God into many of our players. We half expect the opposition to score in any minute, could never hold on to a lead and the next balls up is just around the corner. This transmits onto the field of play and all to often has a negative affect. I always read the vitriolic match threads and often think 'thank fuck' I don't have to play in front of that bunch. Our fans have to adopt a more positive, supportive approach if we are going to hit the heights again. Easier said than done.

Rant over.
