Match of the Day commentator Jonathan Pearce, speaking on Football Focus

In my opinion, the league missed out on an opportunity. If they had called every game off from Wednesday night onwards, it would have given a 10-day isolation period before the Boxing Day matches.

I preferred the bit where he sympathised with the fans the gist of which was 'not just those from Burnley and Birmingham but fans who travel from all around the World to watch football in this wonderful Theatre".

I'd imagine that caused a few expletives to be uttered by those viewing in Small Heath. :D
Pearce seems to like us.

Know him. A top man. Supports  Bristol  city as his his dad played for them  but stood on the holte many times with.him.  always tries to get a quote into the commentary that only villa fans would get.

Interesting. How do you know him CCR?

Was best mates with one of my best mates.  Top man. Some years ago we went to Charlton on  a monday night. He said I will meet you in the bar afterwards as he was commentating with Tony Gayle. We rocked up after the game and the doorman said no chance. Pearce or Pint as we called him rocked up and said they are with us and in we went.

Fond memories of him doing all the games in our Uefa cup 1997 run to QF.

Yeah him and Guy Mowbray ("listen to the Holte end, look at the Holte end") are always pretty positive about us in comms compared to a few other commentators.

As oppose to that Rob Hawthorne who clearly hates us and must be either a Nose or Throstle

Strangely enough, I have it in the back of my mind that he’s Villa.

I can remember getting to Villa Park on Boxing Day 1995 and the game was postponed. It was the last season before under soil heating was installed and the pitch was terrible.
Liverpool at home. I went. Then went home

I remember Man City was cancelled 1993-94 too. I have programs for both the original game and the rescheduled match. Both had the same cover.

I guess that the only way to ensure safety is to test everyone (including the players) before they enter the ground. It would be a pain but at least the matches could go ahead. Nobody carrying the virus, vaccinated or not, would be allowed to enter. There would be depleted teams but football would go ahead and maybe some of the younger players would get a chance.
There's a national shortage of lateral flow test kits

No shortage, just a short term demand spike which caused some logistical issues. All sorted now

My first Christmas as a father I thought I'd start as I meant to go on and bail on the inlaws visit.

I started walking down to the match that afternoon and got as far as the Yew Tree before someone told me the game was off. I had a quick pint and walked home, my new wife cried and thought I'd been teasing her, quite rightly I got treated like a king for 'putting my family before the Villa" that day......

Until her big mouthed uncle arrived.

Stop moaning all you bits of kids.  I remember parking up at Old Trafford just as a game was called off once.  I didn’t phone 0898 12 11 48 attempting to vent my spleen.

I remember that, we went up in my mates new Montego company car and had the tape player on rather than the radio, we had parked in Trafford and were on our second pint when a Utd fan asked us if we were pissed off having travelled.

Ok fair enough but I think the suggestion that everyone takes a lateral flow test prior to entering the stadium is a non starter. 40,000 people waiting for the result would cause mayhem.

Edge, the lateral flow test is the one you do at home where you get a result in between 15 -30 minutes. You may be thinking of the PCR which is the one where you have to wait for the result to come back from the Lab.

I think unvaccinated players in the PL should be made to play in traditional Dutch wooden clogs until they get doubled vaxed and boostered.

That'd soon change their minds.

Though that would give a very unfair advantage to Burnley.

I hope your answer was 'not really, I haven't travelled as far as the Yanited fans'.

No worries, apologies, didn’t mean to sound pedantic or know all, it’s just that we’ve unfortunately had to become experts on these bloody tests recently. One adult son tested positive ( with both tests) and is now holed up in his flat feeling crappy on his 32nd birthday, another one coughing his guts up in his room in our house ( he had to move back in when his relationship broke up). He’s a teacher and god knows how he hasn’t had it yet , most of his classes and colleagues have. Despite having negative LFTs he was so ill yesterday we decided not to go to the match before it was cancelled anyway and he drove to the centre to get a PCR. We are now awaiting the result and bricking it. Our 3rd son miraculously didn’t get it when all of the rest of his small company of 6 did , so he’s been doing LFTs twice daily and voluntarily self isolating until recently. And we are now not sure if it’s safe for our fourth son and his wife to come up from London at Christmas.
Sod Covid!
