We'll be 2-up and coasting with 20mins left when Brighton score. Thoughts of a Wolves-like collapse precipitate apprehension on the pitch until SG screams at the players in broad scouse and sanity returns as we see out the game for the win. Austin MacPhee doesn't leave his seat for the entire game.

Sanson is a better player than Ramsey for me right now.
Based on 45 mins vs Chelsea reserves?

Don't get me wrong I hope he comes good, but right now Ramsey deserves the start.

Kante is a reserve?

And he embarrassed Saul Niguez, a man hard enough to win leagues as a starter under Simeone. Maybe his problem is, as ever, fitness, but if it isn't it'll take some persuading me that he doesn't deserve some minutes per game.

Ramsey embarrassed him so much in the league game that he got hooked at half time

Depends who is fit. I think we'll have a flurry of substitutions on to about the hour mark through tiredness.

Also a surprise in the lineup.

Heart win, head loss. So a Draw.

I think there’ll be a surprise in the line-up, as well.

AEG will reappear to stun all and sundry with 3 goals; two penalties and the other, a long distance screamer into the top corner.
And Villa win, 6-0, with Ollie, Ings and a youngster getting into the action 👍

(If a certain beer did first matches for Gerrard and the coach of many talents!)

Defeat - Brighton are playing really nice fluid football right now and expecting Gerrard to turn this round overnight is silly.
Brighton's winless streak is longer than ours.

Which of course means we get Brighton's season back on track. It's the Villa way.

I hope the rumours of Ash Young playing further forward are wrong, on the bench at best.

I could see him doing something like Archer,
Ings and Watkins as a front three.

         Martinez

Cash Konsa Mings Targett

          McGinn Sanson

              Buendia
Archer      Ings    Watkins

I would have said it’s a game we’ve got to win under Smith and it’s no different under Gerrard
We’re two points off the relegation spots Gerrard has been bought in to get us winning again it starts on Saturday

No excuses

Well, there's some excuses.  The fact he's only had 1 or 2 training sessions with the majority of the first team woiuld be one of them.

Agreed and in this respect I feel sorry for our new manager.
Purslow has put him in this position, knowing where Villa are. He must be expecting him to hit the ground running and I hope for Villa's sake that is the case. Purslow has made it that there can be no excuses or free hits. UTV!

Is Bailey injured?

Most weeks the question is “is Bailey fit”.

Sounds like Sanson and Luiz won’t be quite ready for the Brighton match.
Based on that, my view is we can expect them back for next season assuming they haven’t got injured in training again or on international duty. Otherwise 23/24 would be my realistic target for their return!!
