Did anyone notice the United players complaining about our goal being offside, or protesting that De Gea had been fouled by Ollie? No? That's right, OGS, they didn't because there was nothing wrong with our goal!

His pathetic and ungracious belly aching makes it all the sweeter. Heroes to a man. Every one.

If you put the Man Utd hoodoo aside (which was obviously on all our minds) and look at the game outside of that, we actually dealt with them quite comfortably. The sh*thouseary on the penalty and even Mcginn’s needless yellow earlier (which was him making a point) show a side that genuinely believe they belong near the top of the table and not just making up the numbers. I love the attitude of everyone involved at Villa to convey that sense of belonging. Getting up the noses of the manc reds means we’re majorly on the right road. And I don’t even think the side has clicked yet. There’s much more to come.

I watched Courtney Hauses interview on villa tv this morning, only a couple of minutes long, but he basically they all believe they as good as anyone in the league. He also went on to its the manager who instills that belief in them.

We definitely don't seem to have that fear factor any more. Previous Villa teams, even some decent Villa teams, played the likes of Man U and you felt we'd lost before kick off.

In the last fifteen months or so we've beaten Arsenal three times, Liverpool, Leicester, Man U, Chelsea and Tottenham. Just need to beat Man City to complete the set.

I'm actually starting to look forward to these games now, mind you, I'm looking forward to every game because I love watching this team play.

The best thing for me is the fact that we have class players like Bailey and Sanson who still haven't really played - well OK Bailey's 20 minutes was a bit special - and we have some really good kids on the bench as well as Traore and Buendia. All looking good. Smith and his 'assistants' showing what you can do with some depth.

Spot on. It’s very exciting times!

(We met years ago at a couple of games. Charlton comes to mind. I’m known as Clarry)
Yes indeed I remember. Hope you're enjoying our resurgence. I'll look out for your posts.

I'm enjoying the hard luck stories from the Man Ure side this morning. Nobody mentions the foul on the half way line on McGinn by Magure.

Thought the Villa fans were great yesterday, can't remember hearing the United fans once during the match.

If we can win at old Trafford after 12 years we can win anywhere. Sir Ron was the last manager to give the players this much self belief.

OGS is a terrible manager. Two extremely average midfielders in Fred and McTominay sitting in front of the defence, Sancho on the bench and he seems to have completely ruined Mason Greenwood, who a couple of seasons back I thought was just about the most promising young English player in the Premier League.

Great innit?

We also sell corporate away trips for visits to places like OT so I assume that's where those "missing"  are.

Only regret for me is this didn't happen at VP. Can you imagine how good last five minutes would be for atmosphere if we could beat them in that style at home and end the long jinx?!

Honestly think the roof would come off the Holte when Sweet Caroline comes on if we won in that manner.

Great thing now is the players will go into the return fixture really believing we'll win which hasn't been the case for most of the last 25 years so fans need to play their part aswell on the day. Or night.

Just read the Guardian report and in the comments below the article, there's this from a guy called Calvyn (judging by Klopp's picture in his logo a Liverpool fan) who sums it up beautifully:
"In amongst all the fun and laughter, someone needs to mention Aston Villa ~ so here goes: Let's hear it for Dean Smith, arguably the most under-rated manager in the top flight. Probably because he's English, his name is plain old Dean Smith and he looks like he should be spending Saturday afternoons cutting the grass and putting up shelves.

But beneath that avuncular exterior sits the mind of a smart tactician. He's done a number on United today and that win was no fluke.

As for Solskjær, at the end of an horrendous week, let's hope he tries some introspection rather than lashing out and blaming other sources. He got his "get of jail card" after all, but they blew it.
So much attacking talent at his disposal and yet he still doesn't seem to have a clue how to deploy it cohesively. Pressure building on him now."
Thank you Calvyn.

What a crap stadium Old Trafford is by the way. OK it's huge, but it feels old and outdated and not in a historic way. Plus having no big screens in the stadium is really small time. Only good thing about it is it's much easier to get away from than Villa Park. An hour after the final whistle yesterday I was on the M6 going past Stoke. Leaving VP I'd be lucky to be on the Expressway by then.
