YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
FUCK OFF MAN U
-
GET IN BOYS!
-
Woo-Hoo. Going out in the car all game definitely works for me.
-
Feel quite emotional
-
We have beaten those cheating, diving, cheating ******.
And fully deserved.
-
Reporting live from amongst the Old Trafford home fans: get the fuck in you fucking Villa beauties!!!
-
Fully deserved
-
I’d forgotten how happy football can make me at times. Great result.
-
I wouldn’t have put my Hause on that score!
-
Fucking get in. And yes fuck man unted.
-
Yes yes fucking yes. Cracking bloody effort. Created lots and finally do em.
-
Probably the greatest last 5 minutes of a game since 1982.
Can we now do these c***s at Villa Park please? That was brilliant.
-
Casual 3 points. Hope we do better next time.
-
yes! We won at Old Trafford. For only the second time in my memory!!!
Didn’t see this happening!
-
We fear no one. Long may it continue.
-
Yes yes ..... 3 points off the top.
-
We bossed that second half. Fully deserved 3 points
-
Piece of piss 😂😂😂😂😂
-
You'd be forgiven for thinking Villa were the elite top 4 team
-
Eight points above the relegation zone. GTFI
-
Purposely avoided the game till full-time, oh my bloody great result will now go and read the match thread .
-
From the Guardian MBM:
Peep peep! That’s an outstanding victory for Aston Villa, who were too dynamic, too smart and just too good for a lacklustre Manchester United.
-
Looked loads of Villa fans in the left of the Stretford End.
-
Eight points above the relegation zone. GTFI
3 points off Top 4!
-
Dean Smith is a fucking genius. Why would any one think he's not doing a terrific job. Torrid run of fixtures and we've got six points from nine. Amazing. I just wish we could beat the fuckers at home
-
F*CKING FANTASTIC 👏👊💪
-
Superb.
Well done Dean and the team.
Think it's drinky time!!
-
Can we play you every week! Never in doubt.
And I was about to put £1 on Hause next goalscorer at 1000/1, but didn't get there in time. Happy and gutted at the same time 😂
-
We were absolutely superb today, a very high energy performance throughout. A fully justified win, we should have been 3 or 4 up at half-time.
The officiating was next level appalling, but it's not surprising at the theatre of shite. Have some of that you manc *****.
-
Fucking beautiful. YAAAAAAASSSS!
-
Up the fucking Villa. Just in from Girona to see the second half. Marvellous. Get the fuck in!
Also FUCK YOU Mike Dean and FUCK whiskey nose and FUCK the theatre of twats!
-
Mike Deano, what's the score?
Mike Deano, Deano what's the score?
:D :D :D
-
We were quality today anyway, deserved the three points.
Can't think of any Martinez save in second half, 3-5-2 was quality today.
Wait until we put Bailey into the front 2 for selected games. This season is going to be more exciting than last imo.
-
I knew it, I just knew it today. I have to learn to start trusting my considerable gut when it's being positive. I always trust it when we're on for a tonking. Well done the lot of ya!
-
I’ve seen hundreds of games over many years and have to concede that I know next to nothing about football.
Couldn’t see this happening.
Happy to be so wrong.
-
I'm off to Wolverhampton, where, I'm led to believe, someone is waiting for me. What a day.
-
YYYAAARRRGGHHH!!! FUCK OFF YOU BASTARDS!!!
-
I am mentally drained!
-
Only a +2 goal difference…shocking!!😂
-
The ManUtd fans on their forum are so bitter!
-
Fucked the fucking fuckers despite that pitiful excuse of a referee doing his level best.
The penalty kick has just landed in Piccadilly Gardens.
-
From Twitter:
Aston Villa are the first team to keep a clean sheet against a Manchester United side including Cristiano Ronaldo since Barcelona in the 2009 Champions League final.
-
I am at a wake, which has led to some innapropiate behaviour when the goal went in and the pen was missed. Crediting my wife's grandmother with this miracle. What a great performance. This is going to be a much better team. Well done Smith as well, far better tactically now he has more options.
-
The ManUtd fans on their forum are so bitter!
Twitter and RedCafe are in absolutely meltdown mode. #OleOut everywhere and its Matchday 6.
Jesus wept - they are a truly pathetic lot.
-
Magnificent performance from every player. We created the better chances and would have been a travesty if we had not won. Massive call out to the coaching staff to get the players working this new system so well and so soon. Not too sure what happened to Ramsey, looked like he would have needed a stretcher when he first went down.
-
Yes!!! Despite their obligatory penalty we managed to beat them! Brilliant stuff!
-
Enjoy the weekend all ! What a result. We were the better team anyway, karma at end finally.
Martinez 8, Cash 8, Hause 8, Mings 8, Targett 7, Luiz 9, McGinn 7, Ramsey 6 (Buendia 7), Ings 6, Watkins 5. Deano 9
-
Oh ya beautiful bastards you ! UTV !
-
Ratface missing the pen was pure karma.
They really thought they were back in it. C&@ts
-
Was it a pen?
-
This team really fears no-one. Not since 1981 can I recall a Villa team who believe they can win every game the player. Well done Deano!
-
Nice and easy routine win there.
-
Was it a pen?
probably. ball came in and Hause had his arms at a 45º angle, seemed a natural position but its 2021..
Bruno forgot to skip and launched a ball into orbit from the spot though, beautiful thing.
-
We're Aston Villa. We fear. Nobody.
-
I’m overwhelmed, I thought we’d get something today but a win and them missing a penalty?? This is why you stick with a manager who has a proper football philosophy, through thick and thin. If we didn’t pass it last season, this is the turning point for me. Greatness is on its way back
-
Was it a pen?
Hause was a bit awkward, arm out slightly. Harsh I thought. But the worst decision of the game was a blatant body check on McGinn by Maguire in the second half on a counter attack. Stonewall yellow card, Manchester Dean waved play on...joke
-
Told ya, i just knew it. Onwards and upwards, and well done our new specialist coach.
-
Was it a pen?
The ManUtd fans don't think our goal shouldn't have stood as they said Watkins was off-side for the corner.
Tossers ;D ;D
-
What a win! What a win!! The ref did his best for them but we saw it through.
What a wonderful, wonderful result.
The smile on my face will still be in place by the time we play Spurs.
Just magnificent.
-
Lancashire and Yanited 0
Warwickshire and Villa 2
-
Solskjaer gracious in defeat. Not. Only makes me even happier we turned these scumbags over finally.
-
Was it a pen?
The ManUtd fans don't think our goal shouldn't have stood as they said Watkins was off-side for the corner.
Tossers ;D ;D
Did he touch it ? no
did he interfere with the keeper in anyway , errrr no
As you were plastics
-
Lancashire and Yanited 0
Warwickshire and Villa 2
Beautiful, just beautiful.
-
Brilliant Villa absolutely brilliant, Man United fans should be grateful Leon wasn't playing, as it would have been a hammering.
UP THE VILLA
-
We did what we needed to do. Turn a good performance into a win rather than a brave defeat. Outstanding from all, in particular McGinn. And having 3 CB's in the pitch is an attacking formation as well given our improvement in set pieces.
Finally, what is Hause supposed to do in order to avoid that penalty? Where are his arms supposed to be??
-
28 - 7 shots, yet i cant remember them having a decent chance (other than the penalty) and we had 4 huge chances.
-
Get innn! UTFV! FO manure and dean the cheating corrupt tossers!
-
According to the Beeb, Yanited had 28 shots ,3 on target.28?????
-
Enjoy enjoy. I hope they become regular
3-5-2 works with good wing backs and midfield trio
-
Wonderful . Wonderful. Best manager in the league and thrilled to have won. Performance wise brilliant. Played the game in man utds half and had opportunities to have scored more. Fully deserved the win.
About time too.
Some Match highlights here and I put up longer one on match highlights thread.

Sour grapes from Olly GS on SSN right now.
-
What a win. Deserved, and justice done on the pen, which was utterly stupid. Ole whining about our goal being offside and saying we should not crowd around Bruno is just about the most hypocritical bollocks I have ever heard.
We made the better chances. We deserved the win. Smith and the players deserve all the credit.
-
Fantastic result, a win at OT is a big statement. Credit to Deano, took some criticism for the team selection in midweek but with a bit of luck we could have won at Chelsea and United in the same week with practically two different teams.
Special mention for Hause, for someone who isn't first choice usually he really is an outstanding player now. What a difference it makes to finally have a decent squad.
-
According to the Beeb, Yanited had 28 shots ,3 on target.28?????
Speculative punts from a long way out.
-
Solskjaer reckons our goal was offside. Fuck off, how many undeserved penalties or decisions have you had vs us?
-
Sour grapes from Olly GS on SSN right now.
They got their customary penalty, and missed it. What has that goblin got to complain about?
-
Was it a pen?
The ManUtd fans don't think our goal shouldn't have stood as they said Watkins was off-side for the corner.
Tossers ;D ;D
It's a very special day when we send redcafe into meltdown mode. I bet the delusional fuckers over there think they should have been leading comfortably in the first half. ;D
-

Always liked Hause. Needs a new contract. Never lets us down, and a real beast in the air. Should have scored 2 today.
-
According to the Beeb, Yanited had 28 shots ,3 on target.28?????
From a Manure fan during the match well before the last few minutes drama.
"Ole has a collection of individuals who don't create chances like a team but just hit lots of long range efforts hoping it will fall kindly to them".
-
OGS. What a prick. Moaning about players mobbing the penalty taker like Pogba and Co never do so. Sky sports will no doubt be playing somber music with the screen having a black border for 3 days of mourning.
-
Lancashire and Yanited 0
Warwickshire and Villa 2
Seconded
-
Outstanding. McGinn was brilliant.
-
Sour grapes from Olly GS on SSN right now.
Just watched that, the ungratious jerk. It's straight out of the Ferguson school of football psychology, never, ever give the opposition any praise of any kind only when Manure have given them a walloping when it's ok to be condescending. I never used to bother too much with OGS in the past but from now on after that...
-
McGinn was motm.

Saw a headline across one of the papers where he is blaming Klopp for Manure not getting penalties. So I suspect he wanted another 3 at least for unspecified reasons. Was it last year when he was moaning we were a physical side when there players had more fouls given against them.
-
Out set piece coach is an incredible bit of business. Whoever made that happen (Lange?) deserves a round on the house.
-
The ManUtd fans on their forum are so bitter!
Twitter and RedCafe are in absolutely meltdown mode. #OleOut everywhere and its Matchday 6.

Shame! - I'm absolutely devastated for the tossers.

He really is a knobhead.

Fucking get in there!! Unbelievable
I fucking love you deano ❤
-
A very special day.
UTV.

He really is a knobhead.
Said we were setup well to counter attack..? I don't know what he was watching. That was about as spread out and high pressure as we'll ever be (away, no less) to a Scum 6 club.
-

Well he is probably fighting for his job now , in a couple of weeks he will be fishing in his garden pond again the bloody gnome
-
Starting to click now this season. Not worried about Ollie but hasn’t he just had a kid?
-
Solskjaer reckons our goal was offside.
What did the ****** say after Fernandes fouled Konsa at VP and got a penalty? I hope it was offside, I hope Ollie completely blocked De Geas view, I hop De Gea would of easily saved it if Ollie wasnt there.
-
We are fucking back. Big time. On Monday morning the Board and Dean make contact with the FA and make sure that c**t Mike Dean is nowhere near a Villa game again. That penalty award bordered on corruption.
-
Why was Pogba wearing Citeh colours in his hair?
-
Great game plan. Spurn loads of gilt-edged chances in favour of scoring near the end, giving the ref only a few minutes to award the contractually-agreed pen. Dean did his part, therefore ensuring he can continue in his job. Ratface didn’t.
We’d probably be top of the league had we started the season with three at the back.
-
Solskjaer reckons our goal was offside.

He said, "I hate to say it but their goal was offside. Watkins was touching David, so it is offside. The linesman waved for VAR, and VAR has gotten it wrong again."
Oh, the salty tears.. you just have to love it. CR7 was anonymous, they fleece Pogba out wide left So fucking McTominay and Fred can be central, what a laugh. Shoehorn Cavani up top to do fuck all for 10 minutes. I can't stop laughing, what a day!
-
Wonderful performance. I now want us to beat Man $ity at home.
-
This team really fears no-one. Not since 1981 can I recall a Villa team who believe they can win every game the player. Well done Deano!
This totally, Deano has instilled such belief in the team.
That felt so good, finally
-
Should have been a cricket score but I'll take a 1-0 win against those plastic tossers.
-
Great win. Thought we were a bit sloppy at times in the first half, but had two great chances. Thought we played well second half though and always carried a threat. Hardly surprising that they got their customary penalty against us, just a shock that Fernandes missed it this time.
We have found a system that is working well for us and I thought McGinn had a great game today.
-
Did anyone else see Martinez doing the pelvic thrust toward the Yanited fans after the penalty miss?
-
What a performance. That was no smash and grab, we were the better team overall and created the best chances. We starting to look like we’ve really moved up another gear. Marvelous.
-
Did anyone else see Martinez doing the pelvic thrust toward the Yanited fans after the penalty miss?
He was also displaying top shithousery skills prior to the penalty by asking Ronaldo why he wasn't taking it right in front of Bruno. My Number 1.

Did anyone else see Martinez doing the pelvic thrust toward the Yanited fans after the penalty miss?
YES! If anyone didn't - you should.
-
Never was a penalty so deservedly missed and that team get nothing.
Excellent display from Villa, 4-0 wouldn't have flattered us.
-
Did anyone else see Martinez doing the pelvic thrust toward the Yanited fans after the penalty miss?
Some brilliant shithousery from him in the lead-up too (asking Ronaldo why he wasn’t taking it). I’m all for it.
-
Thoroughly deserved 3 points. No question.

Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
-
Get the fucking fuck in!
Been so long since we've had the joy of absolute limb carnage away from home! Fucking buzzing.
Fantastic team performance. We just ran their midfield off the park all game. McGinn was superb, Dougie disciplined and we were excellent at transitioning it quickly.
We created by far and away the better chances. Fucking brilliant header to win it and absolutely typical that those twats would get an undeserved penalty, which fortunately is still rising into orbit.
They can have no fucking complaints.
We have a team here lads, a right fucking team.
-
Didnt see the game as had to take my son somewhere, got back in the car with 5 mins to go and got WM on for first time in yonks. We both went nuts when Hause scored and they missed the pen. Sounded fully deserved , i had a feeling we’d win. 3rd time in my 47 years that we’ve beat that lot up there, feel a bit emo. But also with this team smiths building, and the performances since and including chelsea away in the league, this doesn’t feel massively surprising, it feels like we might be on the cusp of something, saying im excited doesnt come close. I hope MOTD do us justice tonight.
-
Emi practically doing a DX-style 'suck it' sign to the Yanited fans :)
-
Let's do the double over these scum this season. No messing.
-
Did anyone else see Martinez doing the pelvic thrust toward the Yanited fans after the penalty miss?
There's a four second loop of it on twitter. Ace!
-
I resolved today to not follow the game as it was happening, and so discovered the result just after I'd put a couple of bottles of Proper Job in my basket at Waitrose. If I'd been tuned in to the game Fernandes would have scored that penalty. Have yet to decide whether I should watch the highlights later, as I don't want to jinx it.
-
Solskjaer claiming our goal was offside 🤡
Olly did well to back away from De Gea just before Hause headed it so he couldn't be accused of interfering. But VAR would have been looking at anything they could use to to deny it and couldn't.
-

Some brilliant shithousery from him in the lead-up too (asking Ronaldo why he wasn’t taking it). I’m all for it.
Yes, was about to comment on that after just seeing the highlights. It was brilliant example of getting into the kickers head without even mentioning him.
-
Did anyone else see Martinez doing the pelvic thrust toward the Yanited fans after the penalty miss?
yes, also looked like he was pushing the yanited players aside, as if to say, come on Ronaldo... you take it ..your the only one who can beat me.. Ronaldo bottled it..fernandez skyed it. all hail king Emi.
-
Pathetic interview from Solskjaer, bitter little twat.
-
Pathetic interview from Solskjaer, bitter little twat.
He is struggling , you cant spunk the money they have and not win anything again . ha bloody ha
-
Apparently Emi was asking Ronaldo if he was afraid to take the pen. Could be bollocks, but hilarious if true and he definitely spoke to him.
-
What a brilliant game. Been a long time since I enjoyed one against that lot of plastic twunts.
The whole team were superb, they worked their nuts off. Dean got his tactics right, and made some slightly earlier subs (Archer, yay!).
Also, as usual, the away fans did us proud. Could hear them all game long.
I'm going to thoroughly enjoy the rest of the weekend!
UTV!

Apparently Emi was asking Ronaldo if he was afraid to take the pen. Could be bollocks, but hilarious if true and he definitely spoke to him.
Well he was definitely pointing at the ball and pointing at Ladyboy and seemed to do a movement of "I want you to take it" and then a dismissive "Hah" when CR turned away. But he essentially put Brunes off anyway as it made him wanting to blast it past Emi to "teach him a lesson" and I just saw the streak in the sky of the ball just now in Birmingham.
-
My son just rang me from outside the ground as he lives and works in Manchester so got a ticket through colleagues in their end. Feel chuffed to bits for him. UTV.

I'm out for a few drinks and have not had chance to read all this thread.
An annoyance I have noticed, the BBC report of the game has no had three different images on the link. Each one a Manchester United player looking glum. Why not an image of the winning team? (We all know why of course)
-
Absolutely and totally wonderful.
Well done, Villa.
-
Bloody love him!!
-
Fucking love this team! More character, skill and balls than any Villa side for well over a decade.
OGS you sad pathetic little ungracious twat.
-
Did anyone else see Martinez doing the pelvic thrust toward the Yanited fans after the penalty miss?
Yes! And begging Ronaldo to take the pen when bruno had the ball.
Shithousery I can get behind.
-
Thoroughly deserved win & a masterclass tactically. Should have been at least 2 goals clear before we scored.
Stunning arrogance from OGS to complain about the goal. The better team won.
Brilliant from Martinez to get into Fernandez's head before the penalty & the dance afterwards.
We're back & we're going to get better.
-
That Emi shithousery in action:

The initial report of the match for full time had four paragraphs with the last and biggest being about Manure will be playing Villareal midweek which is a replay of the Europa Cup final. Yep, very match related that.
-
Utd's loss is so great the PL will insist on black arm bands next week.
Well done to everyone, sensational performance..that is, all except Mike Dean who was atrocious.
-
I was going to have a quiet one today, but Aston Villa have put paid to that.
Cheers everyone.
-
12 years of hurt over. Feck united and feck ole for his sour grapes comments after the game.
Smiths beaten chelsea liverpool utd spurs Leicester arsenal in the last 18 months. Only greasys city to go now

Up the fucking Villa. Just in from Girona to see the second half. Marvellous. Get the fuck in!
Also FUCK YOU Mike Dean and FUCK whiskey nose and FUCK the theatre of twats!
A succinct and accurate summary, I’d say!

I really hope that's true!

It's a real bugbear of mine too, defenders not following penalties in for any rebound. Drives me mad.
-

YES! If anyone didn't - you should.
He is the ultimate shithouse, Got in Bruno Nobles head for sure.
It's about time we had our turn to shithouse these wankers.
-

How can you be offside from a corner?
-
What a brilliant game. Been a long time since I enjoyed one against that lot of plastic twunts.
This is our record against them since my first match (including 2000-2007 at a secondary school that was about 50% gloryhunting scumbags) and throughout, they have uniformly been the least gracious supporters I've ever met.
(https://i.ibb.co/P484rpG/20210925-152144.jpg) (https://ibb.co/P484rpG)

Fuck off one and all, you plastic ******.

Such a shame Emi couldn’t have been in net in midweek. That level of shithousery would have been wonderful to watch
-
DS, "It's probably inevitable every time we play Manchester United we give a penalty away - extremely harsh." ;D ;D
-
Wow. The result was impressive but even better than that was the performance - we were imperious and frankly we are just getting going.
Special times these. There is just class written over everything going on at the club.
So so proud to be a Villian. Top 6 is on
-
Wow. Fantastic team performance. Makes all the previous trips a distant memory. So happy with the way Villa as club are growing in such a positive direction. UTV
-
You notice after the pen 3 united attackers ahead of the defenders for the rebound though.
It's a real bugbear of mine too, defenders not following penalties in for any rebound. Drives me mad.
Different these days though as the defender encroaching means a retake where the attacker doesn't. And with VAR it is more likely to be picked up so goes against the defensive team to be so anticipatory.
-
We did it without potentially our most dangerous player, too.
-
For me, Hause has played his way into the team at the expense of Tuenzebe.
-
emi will probably get a ban for inciting Ronnie
-
Solskjaer reckons our goal was offside. Fuck off, how many undeserved penalties or decisions have you had vs us?
How can you be offside from a corner?
Ball was swung out and ollie was standing his ground so De Gea couldn't attempt to get over so fast or try to claim it. He then let De Gea move him out the way just before the header and Hause scored. So Ollie was next to De Gea non interfering but no other between him and the goal line. So in a position that could be called offside if the ball had gone his way but as it didn't, he wasn't.
-
Mike Dean give it as a goal, so I take his word for it

Thanks for those, I ended up having to listen to rather than watch the last quarter of the game.
Tell you what, Shughie's earning his corn. Watch how our seemingly casual movement before the delivery, especially from Mings, clears a massive space in front of De Gea. And he knew it, as well.
-
Have that, you filthy ‘United’ ******.

The report in the Grandian claimed Newton Heath had the more clear cut chances.
Are they in some sort of club or something the fuckin' roasters?
-
The season we went down, my 60th birthday coincided with the game up there.
We lost but not so badly. I travelled a long way to see that
Today in the comfort of my own bar with beer in hand i roared. Even when they got the penalty I roared as everyone knew it was inevitable.
When they missed I almost pissed myself
I can not remember being up there to see us win apart from the Everton replay
Onwards and upwards, it should have been 3

That Emi shithousery in action:
https://twitter.com/op4c/status/1441762855661883395?s=21
I really would like to think that he was giving it to Ronaldo - the crotch bit after was hilarious. They really are starting to get a right ballsy attitude in the side. Starting to think Jack going has actually done us a favour in more ways than one.
-
Solskjaer reckons our goal was offside.
Ah ok, thanks.
Saw it back. Total sour grapes, he wasn’t blocking his way at all. I used to think Solskjaer was alright but he seems to be morphing into a shit SAF. I should add if he wants mind games with Klopp as he seemed to do this week, he will lose.

Would that be the (one time) M*nchester Grandian?

Is this the best TEAM we have had the last 30 ish years?
-
emi will probably get a ban for inciting Ronnie
I wouldn't be at all surprised if they didn't try and do him for 'inciting the crowd' for his little jig after the missed penalty.
-
Solskjaer can fuck off.
-
Solskjaer can fuck off.
Hopefully not. Another trophyless season would be so funny for them.
-
Is this the best TEAM we have had the last 30 ish years?
The signs are promising but let's remind ourselves that to better our 1995-96 team they need to finish 3rd and to better our 1992-93 team they need to win the League...

Yes, those two spring to mind, but I feel the dept is much stronger.

Did anyone else see Martinez doing the pelvic thrust toward the Yanited fans after the penalty miss?
There's a four second loop of it on twitter. Ace!
He’s an absolute shithouse legend.
He’s the goalkeeping version of Genghis Khan
-
Brilliant performance, nice to see us giving it to them with the penalty. Can't stand Bruno Fernandes.
-
The best thing for me is the fact that we have class players like Bailey and Sanson who still haven't really played - well OK Bailey's 20 minutes was a bit special - and we have some really good kids on the bench as well as Traore and Buendia. All looking good. Smith and his 'assistants' showing what you can do with some depth.

An incredibly bitter write up, in which, before it was corrected after 10 mins of being published, referred to Dean Smith as 'Dean Wilson'. The whole thing reads like a Man U fan having an absolute meltdown.

From red cafe
Secondly, we were not by any stretch of imagination outplayed or out thought by Villa today. Not in terms of dominance, not in terms of tactics. They took one of their (few) chances, we did not take ours. If we had, we'd have won. Even though they probably played more or less up to capacity and we didn't
That wasn’t impression I had of the game. They really are a bunch of wassless clankers
-
Quote from Redcafe that compliments our coaching team ;

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone into the under pressure manager default mode of making excuses and talking bollox.
-
Starting to think Jack going has actually done us a favour in more ways than one.
I am inclined to agree. Losing a world class player is never a good thing, but we look like so much more of a team than we did with the "Get the ball to Jack" approach of the last few years.
-
Like a few others I completely ignored the game and turned my phone on after full time. Absolutely glorious. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread. Enjoy your evening all.

The report in the Grandian claimed Newton Heath had the more clear cut chances.

I can't think of any chance of note they had second half bar Greenwood screwing a couple wide from edge of the box.
First half Greenwood probably should've scored early on when he turned in the area (similar to what Lukaku did two weeks ago) then they had the Mafguire header and Pogba hit some shot just wide (my stream had gone down at that point).
No way they created more than us today, we missed three sitters in first 30 minutes.

A case could be made for the best coaching in 30 years.

I totally agree. Much better team without him now. They were utterly clueless when he was injured last season, as everything went through him when he played.
-
Just a random though...was watching Football Focus and Jonathan Pearce was doing the build up.
Not sure if anyone has the comms for when we last won there in December 2009 but I get the feeling he did it that night aswell (can't believe how few decent highlights there are on YT for that game).
Always enjoy it when he does our games as he seems to have a bit of a soft spot for us and certainly respects our history in the game. First on MOTD tonight I'm sure.

So clear cut that they lost 1-0.
The writer is their Manchester correspondent and he also wrote a book about solskjaer. I doubt he’s impartial.

we're a real team - the last few games have been fantastic performances. Mature and street-wise, and that's without Watkins and Ings scoring. Looking good.

Fair do’s. The bbc comments are comedy gold

We actually look dangerous from corners now. A bit different to the train of players lining up in the past.
I haven't seen the penalty incident again but to me it looked as though the ball brushed off Hause's midriff before hitting his arm.

I much as I like Jack and wish him the best of luck, he is not a one man team and now maybe we can concentrate on making a team rather than relying on one player to save us. So far it seems that's where were going. Nice one DS.

Great video going round on twitter of someone videoing it from Stretford End. Was miles over the bar.
Emi properly got in his head in the build up to that.

I could have had 2000+ girlfriends in my life going by the number I chatted up...yes they were all shots on goal but pretty useless. ;D

Martinez, brilliant.

Fantastic result, made all the better by watching it with a villa supporting pal. Will be smiling for the day
-
I am delighted that I managed to be there today. On the drive in, my Spotify shuffle picked out Sweet Caroline just as I neared the ground and I had a feeling it might be our day. Sung myself Hause.
What I am noticing is that the way we play is the same, regardless of personnel, regardless of how many youth players come in because they play the same too. There is an ethos that everyone slots into.
When Joe was here, we played to him and when he was missing it took ages to work out how to play without him. Just as we were getting it, he would come back, and then we’d lose any semblance of a team plan again.
Now, no matter who is in or out, they know what their role is, they know how it fits together. It’s a team.
So many great performances out there today. Fantastic!
-
Solskjaer was not only ungracious in defeat he also came out with something that I thought I'd never hear from a ManU manager. Having a pop at Villa players for surround the ref for the pen. That's right the inventors of surround the ref and users of said invention for the last 30 odd years have a go at us for doing it, not that we did it to any great extent either.
Everyone played their part today a great team performance. As has been said 3 or 4 nil would have been about right.

I like the fact that these boys don't take bullshit decisions lying down. Villa teams can sometimes be too nice but these guys seem to have fire in their bellies.
Long may that continue.
-
That, whilst nerve racking at the time, had to be the sweetest way for the game to finish. Fernandes got his annual penalty so there can be no post match whinge, and it was worse than Young's on Wednesday.
-

Yeah chatting them up is one thing but cracking the case is something else. I fucking love Aston Villa
-
What a fucking day! Great performance, great result, made all the sweeter by winning £320 on two bets. A tenner on Villa to win 1-0 and a tenner on it being a draw at half time and Villa winning at full time! Was sat in the prawn sandwich seats with the Mancs and they were streaming for the exits long before the final result!

Brilliant summary and bet it was lovely leaving Manchester with a win. Your right, no matter what the personal, whether it’s fringe players like Hause or the youngsters coming through, they all slit into the system and know how we play. It’s fantastic to see.
Dare we say it but we may become far better without Joe. Maybe Southgate was onto something last summer?

Good stuff Risso.

Vill never win at Man U, and I never win bets. I also got to take the piss out of my two Man U supporting mates all the way home in the car.
-
According to the Beeb, Yanited had 28 shots ,3 on target.28?????
Stats I've seen agree.
They had 28 efforts on goal, 4 of which were on target.
We only had 7, with 3 of those on target.
But the best stat was that of those, they had only four from inside the box. So did we.
Also, they created 21 'chances', but none of those were 'big' chances. We created fewer (that figure escapes me now) chances, of which 2 were considered 'big'. We're efficient and organised.
Edit: d'oh, I'd still got the tab open! 5 chances, we made overall. Not many, but the two big ones really were exactly that. Should've buried both.
-
A gracious Man Utd mate of mine said we deserved to win, we had the desire, organisation and looked the sharper team. I had to agree with him.
-
Apologies if this has already been shared. The Sky three minute highlights are up
-
What’s controversial about our goal????? Fuck sky
-
What’s controversial about our goal????? Fuck sky
They're saying that Watkins is in an offside position and interfering play (ie getting in De Gea's way). He definitely was, when the corner was taken. However, you can't be offside from a corner so he could only be offside once Hause touches the ball. When Hause touches the ball, he is no longer interfering with play, so it's a perfectly fair goal and Solsjkaer is a bitter twat. I notice he didn't question the decision not to send Maguire off.
-
Isnt he behind the ball when its played as well?
-
I would like to see the Ramsey chance again when he went down that looked a great chance ? doesnt seem to get flagged up
-
I laughed when they got their pen, I thought it was just typical of our luck. I laughed even more when he missed. Really good solid performance, kept a certain player mainly quiet and could have had three. As hard as they all worked, McGinn and Cash were both immense.
-

Villa just looked a threat as much and more what ever the stats say.
Targett and Ramsey were the 2 big chances. Both fluffed when both should have scored. That falls to one of our attacking wide forwards or Ings / Watkins goal. Konsa had a big chance with a header over too. Perhaps that was measured one more than Ramsey chance who didn't actually shoot the ball just kinda went to pieces with a slip.
Though that's one issue with this formation the attack. On how to be getting the best out of Watkins and Ings in attacking areas. Another is having Matt Targett as some sort of attacking outlet on the left
At the moment he's taking up space and did him self no favors missing the best chance of the match and continued failure in any attacking sense
And of course the attacking players Traroe , Bailey and Buendia fitting in with wing backs
-
What’s controversial about our goal????? Fuck sky
Yeah offside query but would've been ridiculous to chalk it off as De Gea had clear view of the ball when Hause headed it.
Think a replay also showed last touch came off Mings in build up to the corner but blimey if there's one team in last 25 years we deserve run of the ball against it's that lot.
-
Enjoy (also watch Martinez after the miss!)
I love how all the twonks got their phones out to record the actual height over the bar it went. You didn't actually realise how fucking bad that penalty was. 2 metres over it seems from that angle.
-
Like a few others on here avoided the game and found out the score after the final whistle. Absolutely elated that we beat that scum team/management/supporters.
It's great again that we kept a clean sheet and Dean and the coaches seem to be getting the tactics spot on.
Emi Martinez is an absolute legend.
Really pleased for Hause, who I've thought has been unlucky to have lost out to Tuanzebe in some of the recent matches.
I don't normally watch motd, but may make an exception tonight just to see a great historic win.
As for the mancs what a salty bunch of ungracious plastic wznkers. UTV!

Martinez, brilliant.
Apparently there is footage of this Penalty on the NASA website narrowly missing the ISS.

Villa are playing front-foot football this season: we're matching up to teams that previously we might have been a little defensive about. And it is working.
McGinn and Luiz were outstanding today. And for all the crap being spouted about our goal and 4their regulation penalty, the most significant event in the game was perhaps Targett's miss in the first half.
I just love the bitterness and bad vibes of the Yanited tossers.
-
Quote from Redcafe that compliments our coaching team ;
I like how Villa play, that's a very good tactically setup team where every player knows their role.
I'd go one more on that, every Villa player put in a massive shift, no place for show ponies. Even the subs are known for their hard work ethic. Emi B and young Archer chased everything. Not only did we outplay them for large parts of the game, we outfought them for 95 minutes.
-
I really though Man U would come out and swamp us second half, but they were shit. Constantly misplacing passes and making the wrong decision.
-
United shoot a lot from outside the box because they have good players but a shit manager.
-
Targett, Watkins, Ramsey should have been 4

Good that Sky has chosen our game as the game of the day tonight, to show in its entirety. They might have gone for the Chelsea v Man City game, or another of the apparently very good games played today with more goals in it than ours. And as as far as viewing figures are concerned, our game is unlikely to draw in the MU fan base throughout the world (ending as it does in their defeat).

100% this.

Watched it down the pub on one of those illegal streams with a load of Man United fans, good mates of mine in fairness
Just got back absolutely fucking arseholed
What a game what a performance

Thanks. Hopefully a few well chosen words in Portuguese as well.

I didn't watch or listen to the radio and stayed away from my phone until long after the game had finished. When I did see the result half the village must have heard me cheer. Bloody fantastic performance. I detest those Manc tossers and this result has been a long time coming. Martinez doing his jig after the pen was hilarious. At long last were are taking the game to the so called top teams and we should fear no-one.
-
Get in there what a result absolutely brilliant.
-
Another clean sheet. Looking a very neat football team. The players seem to be well up for each other as well in terms of their togetherness. Cracking win. How the fuck did Mike Dean give that penalty? He couldn't possibly see Hause's arm from his angle. I presume the Lino flagged but I couldn't see it. Mike Dean is an arrogant spanner. Brilliant Villa.

No, a white shirt and beige jacket. Which doesn't read anywhere near as good as it looked. Was up in the opposite corner of the Scoreboard End to our lot, in the 1999 lounge.

In fairness he was sound, came over and had a good chat with us, he's running some ex-pro team and he's got Lee Hendrie running the show in midfield, nobody can get near him!
-
We had Norman Whiteside, he was good value as well. I was on the halfway line not far behind the dugout, sat a few seats from singer Anne-Marie. Horse Features was in the same area as well, the c***.
-
Targett, Watkins, Ramsey should have been 4
The Targett miss was a bad one, but thankfully it didn't matter
It was, but perhaps not quite as bad as is being made out. As I saw it the ManU defender should have cut it out, didn't, and Targett saw the ball very late.
-

Your package was probably a bit more expensive than ours mate, not that I'm complaining, was a perfect day all round.
-
I was the there today in their corporate seats, 4 of us. Fuck me, that was sweet.
We were brilliant, the better team all day, and in fairness their fans around us I spoke to were sound and agreed.
Wish I'd known mate, so was I, could have said hello. You didn't have a claret polo shirt on did you?
No, a white shirt and beige jacket. Which doesn't read anywhere near as good as it looked. Was up in the opposite corner of the Scoreboard End to our lot, in the 1999 lounge.
Bloody hell, it's Miami Vice.
-
Feel sorry for you Ris and Lee, missed out on some proper limbs!

Yeah, sleeves rolled up. Represented us with style, whilst most of those tramps looked barely like they'd stepped out of a Lowry painting.

Anyone know who was sitting next to Suralex ? Had a Villa tie on and looked like he'd had a good lunch.
-
Watching it back on Sky now, Targett missed an absolute sitter.
-
Fab result and I’ve really enjoyed the comments about this on Sky, TalkSport, 5 Live, Football Focus and Twitter etc, which boil down to, what’s gone wrong?
Gabby on TS credited Deano and Villa but in most other cases it’s been wall to wall weeping and wailing of biblical proportions. Probably to be repeated in the Sundays.
It would be nice to read something that started something like, ‘Villa beat MU on Saturday and they are very happy’!
-
Love how bitter the PE Teacher is as well.
-
Watched it on my phone on some well known site. Missed the goal because my Mrs decided to phone me just before we scored and as I accepted the call I lost the stream. Got it back on as they were about to take the pen so turned it straight off as I couldn’t put myself through it. Seen the goal and pen on the highlights since, superb by Hause, really great header, and love Emi for getting into their heads…he did it for Argentina and he’s doing it for us.
This system is working a treat and long may it continue.
As others have said, we’re not missing you know who at all and seem to be moving on quite nicely.

No, at that end but on the other side, where the corner was taken. We did well to keep it reigned in, but I'm surprised I didn't kill our mate, I squeezed his head so hard.

Good job, mate!

I appear to have left an important part of my throat in block 233.
What a day. Up at 5:30, to find Euston absolutely swarming with self-entitled plastic reds. Talking all the way up about how they were going to take Declan Rice and a whole host of other players. Seriously, who would want to move there under OGS right now?
Got to love the £3 a pint prices in the away end. To have won that game with so many poor Mike Dean decisions makes it all the sweeter – that Maguire pull on McGinn is at least a yellow, and probably a red. Every time Fernandes fell to the floor he fell for it. And I genuinely don't see how that Hause handball is a pen under the new rules. He let them stand in our wall, against the rules. And showed complete inconsistency on shoulder charges – McGinn wiped out is fine, but don't so much as breathe on them.
And there is nothing sweeter than a late winner, right in front of the away fans. Can't wait to watch it all over again on Match of the Day.

Not shown or discussed on MOTD.

Maybe i was too wrapped up in the game but on reflection didn't see too much of Ramsey. OGS is under severe pressure now, never rated him to be honest and with all the players he has he hasn't got any style of play just a load of individuals doing their own thing. We are officially over Joe now, the team spirit is immense even the commentators are starting to take notice, a very exiting Villa side was just one comment.
-
Mike Dean is an arrogant arse.

Nothing on MotD about it at all.

No but to be fair they were complementary to Villa rather than apologetic to Manure.

Yeah I've never been in that bothered about Solsjkaer in the past, he's a sort of Southgate manager of club football where results are generally o.k but with resources could still be doing more but had to laugh at what he was saying post match.
Was whinging about lack of penalties in the week, gets yet another penalty against us and still whines about it. Now he probably wants every goal Man. United concede to be checked by VAR.
He'll be gone next summer, probably by xmas if they don't make it out of their CL group.

Ramsey was great again and made the position his own. He’s fitted in so well. He’s a nuisance and niggles away, like Ollie when we’re out of possession and very good on the ball. This midfield three work so well together.

I suspect he wanted the ground to open up at that point....was some miss. Nicely laid on by Buendia who was lively when he came in. After a very good first half, I thought Ramsey struggled to make an impact in the second. Thought Smith might have brought on Nakamba for him around 70 mins

I’m a big fan of being able to stream MOTD the night it’s broadcast not having to wait x days as before. Thoroughly enjoyed watching tonight. Vegan dad of two little ones missed the crucial minutes commentary of the end of the match defrosting goat meat for the Mrs before the East African visitors arrived in the house. Part of me was quite narked ar getting my hands dirty *and* the Mrs coming downstairs to tell me what had happened from the speaker I’d left on upstairs. Then I remembered I’d made marriage a condition of a Man U shirt being abandoned in Africa. She hugged me, was excited, got little AV dancing with excited celebrations. I can safely conclude the conversion from the dark side is complete, she’s a Villa fan, job done.

Told ya, i just knew it. Onwards and upwards, and well done our new specialist coach.
Dedicated to Danny Murphy. Why do I think I he’s going to look more and more of a fool as the season goes on!

He did the commentary on Channel 5 for our match against Atletico Madrid in 1998 - always thought that he loved us.
Have stood on the holte with him a fair few times.
-
Every single one of them played to a system and executed it superbly.
After losing our single best player in a generation, losing 2 senior coaching members and a pretty fractured pre season Dean and his team deserve so much credit.
We should fear no one and I genuinely don't think we do

That was a magnificent team performance and a fully deserved. This was a team, who believed we would beat United, not like teams in the past, who were beaten before the match started. Passing, movement, pressing all superb, if finishing had been better, it would have been a very comfortable victory.
The last few minutes, seemed like hours, I couldn't even cheer, when they missed the penalty, because I was convinced they would still find a way to get an equaliser, but thank God, they didn't.
-
If you put the Man Utd hoodoo aside (which was obviously on all our minds) and look at the game outside of that, we actually dealt with them quite comfortably. The sh*thouseary on the penalty and even Mcginn’s needless yellow earlier (which was him making a point) show a side that genuinely believe they belong near the top of the table and not just making up the numbers. I love the attitude of everyone involved at Villa to convey that sense of belonging. Getting up the noses of the manc reds means we’re majorly on the right road. And I don’t even think the side has clicked yet. There’s much more to come.

OGS is a terrible manager. Did anyone notice the United players complaining about our goal being offside, or protesting that De Gea had been fouled by Ollie? No? That's right, OGS, they didn't because there was nothing wrong with our goal!

We definitely don't seem to have that fear factor any more. Previous Villa teams, even some decent Villa teams, played the likes of Man U and you felt we'd lost before kick off.
In the last fifteen months or so we've beaten Arsenal three times, Liverpool, Leicester, Man U, Chelsea and Tottenham. Just need to beat Man City to complete the set.

Only regret for me is this didn't happen at VP. Can you imagine how good last five minutes would be for atmosphere if we could beat them in that style at home and end the long jinx?!
Honestly think the roof would come off the Holte when Sweet Caroline comes on if we won in that manner.
Great thing now is the players will go into the return fixture really believing we'll win which hasn't been the case for most of the last 25 years so fans need to play their part aswell on the day. Or night.
-
Just read the Guardian report and in the comments below the article, there's this from a guy called Calvyn (judging by Klopp's picture in his logo a Liverpool fan) who sums it up beautifully:
"In amongst all the fun and laughter, someone needs to mention Aston Villa ~ so here goes: Let's hear it for Dean Smith, arguably the most under-rated manager in the top flight. Probably because he's English, his name is plain old Dean Smith and he looks like he should be spending Saturday afternoons cutting the grass and putting up shelves.
But beneath that avuncular exterior sits the mind of a smart tactician. He's done a number on United today and that win was no fluke.
As for Solskjær, at the end of an horrendous week, let's hope he tries some introspection rather than lashing out and blaming other sources. He got his "get of jail card" after all, but they blew it.
So much attacking talent at his disposal and yet he still doesn't seem to have a clue how to deploy it cohesively. Pressure building on him now."
Thank you Calvyn.
-
What a crap stadium Old Trafford is by the way. OK it's huge, but it feels old and outdated and not in a historic way. Plus having no big screens in the stadium is really small time. Only good thing about it is it's much easier to get away from than Villa Park. An hour after the final whistle yesterday I was on the M6 going past Stoke. Leaving VP I'd be lucky to be on the Expressway by then.

First time I’ve been in England and we’ve beaten Manyoo at their place.. I was a student in Paris in 1983 and was living in Shanghai in 2009. I joked to my nephew on Friday that I’d need to move abroad before kick off for us to win yesterday.
Pleased to say I don’t have to move back to China for us to beat them.

Were you in the away end Risso or did you have to sit on your hands? I’ve seen a few Villa fans on Twitter posting pics from various parts of the ground, including one bloke who went full on nuts after the goal or the penalty, with people around him just staring - luckily for him.
I haven’t been to Old Trafford since 1990 but remember it being impressive back then.

Old Trafford is very Manchester, all big and showy but when you lift the lid, there isn't much substance and a classic case of size over style.

Two extremely average midfielders in Fred and McTominay sitting in front of the defence, Sancho on the bench and he seems to have completely ruined Mason Greenwood, who a couple of seasons back I thought was just about the most promising young English player in the Premier League.
I find it quite sickening when he tries to talk as though he is Ferguson/Wenger combined into one. Still I don't want him sacked he needs to continue doing the good job he is doing.
-
They'll never achieve anything with a manager who so profoundly buys into their myth. Long may he remain there.

OGS started off quite well in the job results wise and had a lot of goodwill from the fans. Now it isn't going so well and I would imagine the fans are restless.
They are one, maybe two (if Brighton win tomorrow, really really hope they do) points off the top of the table. Only they could whinge. And how long before we see in a gossip column ‘United chase McGinn and Martinez’. Because their response to being bossed by players is, rather than see how to improve their players by coaching in order to cope with said players, is to try and buy them. Or at least has been since late Ferguson era.

Maybe bringing in Ronaldo wasn't the smartest move.
-
I didn't watch MOTD, but seen a report where it seems Shearer can't tell the difference between standing in front of the keeper blocking his view and hence interfering (where was that rule against Sterling a few seasons ago), and standing to the left of him as the ball sails into his well to the right.
-
Maybe bringing in Ronaldo wasn't the smartest move.
I think it was Oliver Holt as one of the only doubting voices on Ronny returning as he pointed out their problems last season were not scoring, but was in fact stopping other teams scoring. So Chris wasn't really helpful apart from pretty much throwing all the long term plans for this season out of whack.
-
No, I think Shearer was clear in that he felt it was a good goal. Like the manyoo manager, he called out the inconsistency when comparing to a Leicester goal or something recently, but unlike the manyoo manager he believes both goals should've stood. His reasoning behind why one was given and the other not was that they came down to, effectively, umpire's call. Similar events, one the assistant flagged at the time, ours didn't.

The team did not look balanced last season, now they are trying to force Ronaldo and Pogba into the starting 11.
Long may it continue.

But he is still stating they are the same apart from the Linesman's flag. If the ball has gone anywhere near Ollie, then yes they would have been similar. However as he wasn't between the ball and the keepers eyesight, then he wasn't interfering when he could have been judged as offside.

Some surprises from yesterday;
The result
The fact that our goal was allowed (even though it should have been)
Old Trafford sounded like ‘being in church’, maybe the tourists and the prawn sandwich brigade have finally taken over?
Fernandez came across as an even bigger ****** than Ronaldo.
We didn’t get an injury
Some predictable stuff;
Mike Dean was a ******
Further to that, they got a last min penalty which was debateable
Slab head was a cheating dirty bastard
Their ‘manager’ was full of bullshit about the decisions in his interview
Pleasing observations
Our team really looks like a ‘team’ the most hard working well organised I’ve seen us for many years and with plenty of talent to boot. Our manager appears to be continuing to grow.
They looked like what they are, a bunch of egotistical individuals that really didn’t seem to like each other too much and the usually grinning fuckers Ole and Ronaldo looked pretty miserable right from the off. Hopefully there’s a lot of issues in that squad.

That picture is misleading anyway, the 2D image makes it look like Watkins is right on top of him. From the near post angle, you can see that he is quite clearly unimpeded at the moment Hause heads the ball.

That’s over 30 years ago Pat. Man U fans, one of their numerous complaints is actually legitimate, in that their stadium hasn’t been invested in or updated. And has fallen behind many of the modern stadia across Europe. Despite all of their success in that time and the billions in revenue they’ve generated. And despite being fucking shit for a good number of those same years, Villa Park still looks superb.

I was in one of the home corporate bits behind the dugouts. Mostly the prawn sarnie brigade, only half of whom seemed to be even remotely interested in the game. I gave it a huge cheer when we scored, to a few tuts but to be honest half of the stand were on the way to the exits before we scored anyway.

The Leicester goal being ruled out last weekend was ridiculous.
IMO they intepreted it correctly given if you look at the replay De Gea has a clear view of Hause as he heads it even if Ollie was lingering by him. And he wasn't saving it in any case.
I thought it was more if a player runs across a keeper and completely blocks his vision as the shot is hit and ball trickles in when it's a saveable shot so in that situation you can understand it being ruled out.
Probably would've been ruled out last season when you think McGinn hit top corner at Arsenal and that was ruled out because one of ours was sort of blocking the keeper's view.

For the Targett miss, we had a player unmarked on the penalty spot iirc. Who was it, can anyone remember?

Oof, no wonder Ings was grumpy. Next time Cash knows who to pass to.
Watkins in current form would have taken 2 or 3 touches and passed back to the keeper.

Really really happy with the win but actually quite furious about the penalty award. Another referee, another game against the Manc reds and another dodgy penalty.

He needs to get off the mark for the season and then we'll see him back to his old self I'm sure.

That was a dodgy penalty decision wasn’t it? His hand is pretty much by his side.

Lord forgive me, but I'm coming around to the idea of three centre backs because:
A) Deano is an attack minded coaching genius and it means we actually play with less defenders as a result, Targett and Cash are midfielders.
B) We're dominant in either box at set pieces, and with our new coaching guru this will reap further rewards
C) Twice before, under Taylor first time round and then Brian Little, moving to three at the back triggered massive upswing in form, and it feels we might be on the cusp of that again.

Fucking Hell.

I really like that we are now unpredictable. Opposition teams know we will play a high energy pressing game. But they don’t know what formation we will play or which players will play. That makes us really hard to set up against.
Apart from Greasy being out last year we became too predictable. The opposition knew they were getting a 433 and they could pretty much pick the team too.
Mixing formations and lineups up will help to develop more intelligent players as they develop their tactical ability through good coaching.
I personally love an overlap so like the 433 and don’t think 2 up top suits all of our players. But it’s working for now.

D). It accommodates both Ings and Watkins.
E) Douglas Luiz plays better in a midfield three.

It's hard to accommodate Buendia and Bailey in the 3-5-2. That's my main issue with it.
-
We have a much better squad of players from which to call now. Must be a bloody nightmare having to mark the likes of Buendia, Bailey and Traore when players are getting tired. Great to have the options from the bench or the starting line-up. Also, knowing we have the likes of Sanson to come back in, when fit. Good options and good cover for the whole squad.

Maybe bringing in Ronaldo wasn't the smartest move.
Unnecessary signing, nostalgia and commercial reasons aside. With the likes of Hause particularly and Mings in our back 3, surely you need to press them hard without the ball. Ronaldo and Greenwood hardly broke sweat. Pogba and Fernandes not interested without the ball either. Then McFred and AWB....an average a trio as there is in the division.
They'll score goals against most teams but will also concede loads. We missed some sitters yesterday to bury them.
-
With all the chat about tactics, etc, I wondered whether we are just continuing with 3-5-2 for now because it gets people use to the system and because (mainly) we had an unkind fixture list and 3-5-2 gives us more defensive stability. When easier games come along, Smith may switch back to 4-3-3.
I do wonder as well whether we may end up with lop sided team/system in some games where required.
We’ve certainly got way more tactical options and players to keep people guessing then we’ve had in a long time. The fact we’re not entirely sure yet says it all.

Greenwood should be playing centre forward for them he is going to be some player, but he is being put out on the right to include the other Ronaldo

Just as Ashley Young was for us in my opinion. Great player under MO'N and I love him to bits for that. Somewhat soured by his blatant dive whilst playing for Manchester United. Against us.

Me too. Was thinking about this the other day; how many ex-Villa players can you say have our ‘best wishes?’ Mellberg, definitely. Then look at others; Yorke’s behaviour prior to leaving was pretty poor and then playing for Blues. Southgate talking about wanting to go to a bigger club and then going to Middlesborough. Barry throwing a paddy about wanting to go to Liverpool who then seemingly didn’t seem to really want him. The list goes on.
-

And that's why it has to be used sparingly. Having to witness Targett as our chief left sided attacker this season is a crime
Especially after Grealish.
And on that Targett worked wonders as overlapping and playing with Grealish but as a flying wing back Matt in any form of aggressive or determined attacking play this season he isn't.
It's a real issue.
And to have quality and proven attackers on the bench can only go on for so long.
Plus the midfielders don't shoot at goal so offer very little in an attack bat the odd shot by McGinn. Ramsey and Douglas are no go threat what so ever. Its literally up to Ings and Watkins to score or a set piece. That's not healthy in long run and many would identify as a somewhat varied approach to Southgates cautious england approaches.
-
That was a dodgy penalty decision wasn’t it? His hand is pretty much by his side.
I thought it was a penalty tbh. Decent distance and if it didn't hit Korts hand Pogba would've probably scored so worked out well in the end for us. In the modern climate it's a penalty and we had similar one called v Newcastle and that was closer range.
Would've summed up this fixture to a T if they'd scored that but finally we get some luck. Hopefully some more is saved for the VP game.
-
It's hard to accommodate Buendia and Bailey in the 3-5-2. That's my main issue with it.
Disagree. We can slot in Buendia as the attacking midfielder v likes of Burnley, Watford, Newcastle although may upset the balance of the central trio but Buendia can press and get on ball in final third.
Ideally you slot Bailey into 4-3-3 but he certainly has the feel of a player who can burst into forward areas so I think for some games him just off Watkins would frighten many defences to death with Ollie's workrate and pace of Bailey.

Quite a few from that era actually, largely because they retired or moved overseas. Angel, Bouma, Laursen, Petrov.
If somebody leaves because they can't get into the first team, has given us years of service and wants one final challenge overseas, or whatever, I generally would wish them well. Anybody who is a permanent fixture in our first XI and moves to another English club, thinking they're better than us - they can fuck off.
I don't mind Ashley Young. He served us well, left us in a dignified manner over ten years ago, and is now a squad player for us. He's not a legend, but I'm happy to have him at the club

I was thinking more in relation to your second point about players moving on to play elsewhere rather than those retiring or aging out. There have been far too many of them who’s behaviour has left a bit of a bad taste. Some more than others.

No mention of the Villa result during discussion but the end of the programme was funny. Fancy the beeb mocking Man Utd.

Agreed on that, Leon. In my lifetime, Yorke, Southgate, Barry, Delph, Grealish are the most notable. I don't wish any of them particular personal ill-will, but I always hope they and their new clubs fail.

Reckon you could probably add Downing and Steve Hodge to that blacklist.

I like this tactical/formation flexibility. Horses for courses and all that, plus it makes it just a tad harder for the opposition to plan and set up against us. The 3-5-2 has worked well in a couple of difficult fixtures, and it also allows us to be more attacking by using Buendia in the midfield 3 instead of Ramsey, in some games/periods of games. While it's hard to make the most of Bailey and Traore in the 3-5-2, I'd imagine we would switch to a 4-3-3 or similar when those two are available and properly match fit.

OGS is a terrible manager. Two extremely average midfielders in Fred and McTominay sitting in front of the defence, Sancho on the bench and he seems to have completely ruined Mason Greenwood, who a couple of seasons back I thought was just about the most promising young English player in the Premier League.
I haven’t seen much of Greenwood over the last few years as I only watch Them if they’re playing us. I thought he was pretty dangerous looking down their right and probably their biggest threat. From what I saw, he seemed the most likely to score. I’m going to watch it again tonight!
-
Thought the Villa fans were great yesterday, can't remember hearing the United fans once during the match.
dunno if we get the same feed on Optus Sport in Aus, maybe we do as someone else mentioned the commentator saying after Spoono Penandes missed that it will probably land inside Villa Park (Elland Rd, probably more likely) but the Villa fans seemed to get louder and louder as the match went on. Great scenes when we scored and at the final whistle.
-
We definitely don't seem to have that fear factor any more.
I'm actually starting to look forward to these games now, mind you, I'm looking forward to every game because I love watching this team play.
just hope we can carry this form through to the Spurs match. I’ve a $100 bet on with a mate that we’ll finish above them this season. I was pissed when I took it, I think he saw it as easy money at the time, but I didn’t hesitate as I thought they’re one of the teams we need to and will overtake to get around 5th / 6th this season.
-

As well as we played, if Greenwood had squared the ball to Fernandes for an almost certain tap in, we'd have gone in 1-0 down and the match might have been very different after that.

We changed players vrs Everton and remained, mainly, 3-5-2
Bailey replaced Targett, and, although different players it was still a straight swap position wise.
It can also be done on the right with Cash.
You could start with Targett and Cash, then finish with Bailey and Buendia.
I do think we have the players to be able to play different formation as and when it suits.
-
3-5-2 should become part of a number of approaches that Smith draws on, depending on the opponents and player-availability.
It's not a dogma or religion; just an option. One that's working really well at the moment.
Fair play to all concerned for embracing it and making it work.

Can also just as easily play 3-4-3. Watkins and Bailey either side of Ings. One of the strikers sits one out and Two of Buendia/Bailey/Traore wide of the front-man.
Buendia can also play in the current Ramsey role

Maybe bringing in Ronaldo wasn't the smartest move.
Hodge wasn't in my lifetime, but I'd completely forgotten Downing.

Villa deserved Old Trafford triumph
Aston Villa were seriously impressive in a victory that showed courage and talent via a front-to-back team display that augurs well for Dean Smith’s side. The Midlanders had not won at Old Trafford for 12 years and still took the contest to Manchester United at each opportunity as Douglas Luiz and John McGinn probed in midfield and Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings made clever runs to scatter the home defence. If the late headed winner from Kortney Hause made it feel like a smash-and-grab victory, the opposite was true. Sure, United had their chances. Mason Greenwood was a class above before the break but did not score, and Bruno Fernandes missed only his second penalty for the club in 23 attempts, following Hause’s strike. But Smith’s team had their own opportunities, would not be cowed by recent history or the venue, and in Watkins they possess a forward who, if he stays fit, appears to be heading only one way: up.

I can't see any game this season where we start Bailey as some sort of wing back. He certainly didn't sign to play half the game in our half.
We'll go back to 4-3-3 eventually I'm sure but this formation is working great currently so why change it especially in central midfield which we all viewed as a real problem area three weeks ago and suddenly we look very strong there against top half teams.

Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed every second of it. In particular I loved watching the pot bellied, bearded bloke in the Manc shirt who gestured triumphantly over when the penalty was awarded. His misery was wonderful at the end, but he seemed weirdly reluctant to leave as if he had to complete some kind of penance and soak up every last moment of despair.
-
Yeah I spotted him too…as good a justification for middle aged men carrying timber not to wear a snug fitting football shirt as you will ever see!

I’m amazed he hasn’t quietly dropped it as it’s hilarious he’s increasingly obviously wrong, clearly as stubborn as he is misjudged.

This is a good one of Korts winner.
Also shows how much b***ocks OGS was talking. I froze it when Hause connected with the header and Ollie is nowhere near De Gea who has a perfect view of the ball.
-
Yeah OGS was talking absolute bolx. I watched it several times over from different angles, and De Gea is clearly preoccupied with Watkins, De Gea pushes Watkins resulting him in bending over slightly with arms out (not holding, pushing or backing in to De Gea), and there is clear line of sight to the ball at all times.
Alan Shearer was as bad on MOTD with his dismissive language stating that his line of sight must have been blocked as he was standing in front of him…look at the actual footage! (although he did say the goal should stand and wasn’t offside/interfering with play).

Shearer actually agreed the goal was fine and the Leicester one should have stood also.

Volume warning for those wearing headphones daring to press play. ;D
My god, the away support was deafening!
-
I saw a video earlier of ex ref Dermot Gallagher explaining why the goal was legitimate. An interesting point he made was that by pushing Watkins away De Gea ruled out any chance of him being deemed to be interfering / obstructing.
Gallagher possibly just going with the ref’s on field decision but the logic seemed fair.

The strategically posted prawn sandwich front right of shot made me laugh.

What they all seem to be missing in this scenario is, De Gea actually pushes Ollie in the back, if the corner has been taken at that time, then it's a penalty and all the bollocks being spouted is irrelevant.

Thanks for posting, great view of the goal. Take that you plastic twats. And yes, I did the same freezing it when Kortney heads it and Ollie is nowhere the keeper.

Yep, agree with the above post, H&VAR has checked it, and Ollie is a good way to the left of De Gea at the exact moment Kortney connects with the header.
-
H&VAR. Like it.

The very notion of consistency is laughable. We have a handball rule where referees, managers, commentators and pundits can all say, with a straight face, "yes it hit the arm, but there's no intent" one week and, "he didn't know much about it, but there's definitely contact" the next.
The 'controversy' makes it better for me, given it was against a club who expect every 10/90, 20/80, 30/70 and 40/60 decision to go in their favour, let alone 50/50s.
If it had ricocheted off Phil Jones's hamper of head bandages, 'Fergie's whiskey cabinet and the latest unfortunate female victim of Ryan Giggs's temper, before crawling into the back of the net while Ollie waterboarded De Gea with the assistance of US Navy SEALs and Mr Motivator was distracting the rodentine arms of Bruno Fernandes with the challenge of a 1.5lb kettlebell, it still wouldn't have undone a quarter of the horse shit we've had served up to us over the past 30 years courtesy of those corporate jizz stains and their cretinous band of biased officials.

Ha ha ha very good. If I were an animator (which I most certainly am not) I think I’d like to recreate that goal. Any takers out there?

Rory- Thumbs up thingy.

For once Crooks makes reasonably coherent sense. Although I've only read the comments on the two Villa players.

Found out today that one of the blokes on my team is a manure fan. I've never met him as we all work mostly from home but he seems a decent type.
When I asked for his thoughts on the result he said the refs hate them and our goal was offside. How on earth he can claim either of those is quite beyond me. Sums them up really.
-
Pathetic squealing from OGS after the game. You never see Manure getting decisions in their favour, do you? Of course the idea of them getting players around the ref to influence decisions is just plain ridiculous!!
Lying tw*t!!
