Is Kortney the forgotten man
« on: August 17, 2021, 04:48:49 AM »
Was still pondering over the debacle of the first half on Saturday and got to thinking how well he played when called upon last season. He may not be the most elegant of players but his ability to handle high balls into the box gave us added security. Is there still a place for him (rumours Spam were enquiring)? I feel if we let him go someone will be getting a very good player.

Well you need reserves that the manager is confident to bring in if the 1st team aren't performing. I'd imagine Smith will give the present players the benefit of the doubt, but if they play like that against Newcastle then you'd hope Hause and Tuanzebe would be considered. He was in the squad last game so that hints he's not entirely out the picture like Guilbert. I imagine if he left it would be because we got an offer too good to turn down considering we'd still have to buy a replacement. For that reason I don't think we'll sell him to West Ham this summer.

I think Hause is highly regarded at the club.
He’s unfortunate that his position as a starter is that of Mings, but he is certainly an able deputy.

Play a 3-5-2 and we'd probably get the best from all three of our CB.
I know for several people here that I'm being heretical but the fact is several of the top clubs use 3-5-2 at times (as well as being able to play other formations, to suit the circumstances).
We may have dealt better with Sarr and Dennis on Saturday using this approach (although In suspect our lack of match practice would have done for us anyway).

3-5-2 requires your fullbacks to be your wingers.  I don't think ours are good enough.  Yes targett is decent, but he's hardly Luke Shaw.  Cash almost never gets past the half way line nowadays and I wonder where that converted midfielder / winger I thought we had brought is sometimes.

I like them both and on form they are very good players, but as our main wide outlet?  Not for me.  Particulalrly when we've just bought Bailey and it would probably be difficult to fit Traore in too.

You're right about Bailey and Traore of course, which is why the 3-5-2 would not be a go-to formation. It's about having the flexibility and foresight to be able to play whatever formation you need to, and to use all the players at your disposal. That was my point.
And, both Cash and Targett have shown that they can play de facto as wingback; as can Young (and Kesler-Hayden can also play that role effectively).

I wouldn’t be selling him. He’s very competent when called on and he’s exactly what we need in the squad at the moment.

No not all  forgotten to me as a debate I would side not. Hause was on the bench and because he was involved in pre season matches he's hardly not been remembered by Smith and coaching team. Furthermore KH has not been out of sight and mind here at Villa this season as he was with the squad and a substitute on Saturday!
He may not appear to be first choice but I would say to me he's very much in Dean Smith plans given he's in the squad.

He will play at Barrow and hopefully a few more cup games if we can have at least one decent run. He will also be available to play in the league and will likely come in if Mings is injured or suspended.

Anyway, not sure I see the point of this thread, maybe could be merged with...

Im not sure about hause. Does a good job when called on but id have massive concerns of we needed him for a long run of games. He seems a bit clumsy at times and his passing isnt great

Let him focus on his music career - he's not the worst at spitting bars, could definitely do with spending more time on it though judging by his performance on Football Focus a few months back. And yeah, when Ty makes himself droppable with some brain-fart moments, Hause can come in for a bit.

That tackle on Lukaku. Not many defenders could do that correctly on the chelsea striker .

Mings , Konsa and Tuanzebe would have been proud of. None of them did that in the league game

He also showed excellent abillty to head the ball away time and again by being in a very good position on Wednesday night. Seemed to get most headers out.

Well done.

He's never let us down when he's come in. Good player, I like him.

(Now put money on him making a ridiculous challenge on Fernandes to give away a penalty tomorrow)

I really like Hause.  He's not elegant but he's bloody effective.  We're lucky we've got such a capable player as our third / furth choice centre back.  I really hope he stays, but would undertsand if he wants to move on for first team football.

As for Saturday, whilst I'd be happy for him to slot in, I'd much rather we go to a 4 at the back and play 4-3-3.
