Austin got a right bollocking from Unai last night after they hit the bar from a corner.  I was thinking our set pieces have not been as good this year, especially from our own corners.  Could Mr McPhee be on borrowed time?

We've scored from 4 set pieces in 8 games in the league, no one is better from them. He's going nowhere.

And conceded one of the highest amount in the league. Just for balance.

This season, according to whoscored.com, we've scored from 4 set pieces and conceded from 1. Data here.
Last season, we scored from 14 but conceded from 16.

He needs to go now.  He is terrible.  How can he have one job and be so crap at it?  The icing on the cake being that we have now conceded three is it or four from our own corners plus a number of near misses.

We've been conceding from our own corners , that doesn't appear to be factored into the above

Presumably, he'll also be given credit for the second goal against Palace which came from a corner.

Part of issue here is lack of height in team. Carlos is built like a brick shithouse but wins very few defensive headers. Rogers the same. We are reliant on Watkins (front post), Martinez and Onana to win the ball in the air. Another reason to get Mings back into the team. We also need to stop giving away stupid free kicks in dangerous areas, Bournemouth it cost us two points. Tielemans, Cash, Barkley, Digne, Carlos especially all incredibly lazy giving away soft free kicks.

Getting done from counters repeatedly on our own corners is a lot worse. Organisation is rotten but again part of problem is lack of recovery pace throughout the team especially in the centre. Carlos, Torres, Tielemans, Barkley - no pace there. Digne is one paced too. Konsa, Mings, Kamara back will improve us here. Cash is able to get back to.

Well it wouldn't would it. But I suppose the question should be is it McPhee's remit to state where the defensive players should be in relation to the box, or if a defender should head against an attacker, or of McPhee told McGinn for example, to come short to close the player on the ball rather then follow the runner whilst still in their half rather then ours so an offside might get called.

After Liverpool scored after we'd had a corner then nearly did the same thing for a second time, then yes, he should probably have looked at it. The fact that we then conceded in the same way against Palace suggests that nobody did, which is pretty shit.

Thought he'd been sacked for a minute. He's been instrumental in our growth, long live McPhee.

I think I heard wolves are looking for a set piece coach.  I’ll drive this useless bloke there.  Utterly dreadful.

Aren't we second for set piece goals scored this season?

I said on the match thread that you can have good set piece idea but if your taker just keeps taking shit corners as we did tonight then the idea won't come to fruition.

This bloke has always attracted absolutely fucking loads of weird takes on here. I'm sure he wouldn't get nearly so much stick if he wore a suit and had short hair.

It isn't MacPhee's fault if Tielemans keeps kicking the ball straight to the first man.
