Let's be totally honest, a good slice of the reason he used to get stick on here was because he stood our with that insane, frankly unacceptable, Rick Wakeman haircut.

He seems to be really important to Emery, despite not being one of his original group, you can tell that by how much time he spends getting into the coaching on the sidelines, and not only for set pieces.

We've scored from 4 set pieces in 8 games in the league, no one is better from them. He's going nowhere.

I wonder if they have used similar set pieces in the past and Emery had pointed it out to McPhee to counter. So to see them almost score from it......

Similar to the England match, initially looked like Watkins should have done better then noticeable that another defender (Konsa) in this case should have done better. Good follow-up defensive header by Watkins for the second cross though.

McGinn's goal was from a set piece. Wouldn't surprise me if McGinn was instructed to aim for the back post. We see loads of goals like that.

I'm sure Unai gave MacPhee credit for that but rightly ticked him off for slack defending when they hit the post.

Its definately a tactic worked on as McGinn scored the exact same goal at Mold Trafford last year.

From The Times today.  article on Bournemouth and their set pieces.  Cooper is their first team coach

“Our weekly process is we collate, we decide, we show the manager, and then once he gives the green light, we show the lads on the grass,” Cooper says. “We do that on a Thursday. And then on the Friday we refine anything that we saw in practice and we’ll give them the information they need to correct it.”
They have a name for a favourite routine that has yet to bear fruit but Cooper won’t reveal anything about it.
“We’re coming up against Villa next and they’ve got Austin MacPhee, who for me is the best in the business,” Cooper says. “When you watch his set plays, you can see how much thought’s gone into them, how well studied the opposition are. I think he uses a lot of smoke and mirrors. There’s a lot of distractions. He taps into the opposition’s attention and tries to take them away from where he wants the ball to end up.
“Villa’s players carry out the set plays really well, so you can see how well-practised they are and well-delivered. So, yeah, it’s going to be an interesting battle because I admire the work that he does.”
