Yeah, if he's only got a year left on his deal but his wages are twice as much as Hull's current highest paid-player (as an estimate), why wouldn't he expect at least the same money for the next year?

Even if they did only pick up £40k, that's a two million pound saving for us...

At the end of the day, he's costing us money to stay here and is gone for free in 12 months time. There will be a tipping point where the money we are saving on the deal is worth more to us than him sitting on our bench playing a bit part is.

If someone meets that point, he will go, if not he will stay and try again in January.

Presumably our valuation of him includes an allotted amount goes towards paying off his contract to put him in a place where he's no worse off.

Yep, 5 years on £40k per week will earn him more than his remaining year on £120k (if these figures are to be believed).

Plus as part of his dropping down in salary he can insist on a release clause and increases or bonuses should Hull stay in the Premier League.

Whilst we obviously want the money , if I was Hull I’d go for a season long loan? With agreement with him to sign him on a free at the end

Season long loan is in effect the same as a transfer fee as he's out of contract next June. So we'll get a nominal amount either way unless another club wants him and they start a BIDDING WAR with Hull. C'mon Cov, be fucking useful for once...

I suspect that the issue might be that Bailey is negotiating a pay off from Villa for the last year of his contract. He hasn’t asked for a transfer and is therefore entitled to a payout, probably to close the gap in salary for him between Hull’s offer and his current salary.
