Apropos of nothing, I really think the word 'performative' has become overused, particularly in reference to football and football fans.

People said Rice's disappointed face was 'performative' after losing the CL final.  His fucking face.   

Hoping we don't see it creep in on here too much. Except when referring to the pint-throwing ******, of course.

Agree. It's a strange term that seems to be creeping in.

I'd also point out that calling out a player for being crap for 2 years isn't hatred, or hating on them, it's having a discussion on a football forum. I reckon 1 good season (across the end of one and start of the next) and the odd mediocre spell, coupled with some of the most half arsed, useless displays I've ever witnessed is about right for Bailey. I forgive any player for putting it all in, but the game he literally gave up on the tickling at Villa Park will be as much as an over riding memory as the game against Man City.

They were two dark days with lots of awful individual performances. But Bailey's efforts in the last games for both Deano (Soton?) and Gerrard (Fulham) were shameful in the extreme. After all he went through to get his career going to start with, showing immense courage and resilience in the process, he could lack any semblance of both within ten minutes of kick off.

On the flip side, some great performances and goals. His introduction at Arsenal killed their league title bid. Great finish that one with his right.

Yup. He was signed when we were a mid-table Premier League side in the hope that he's push us towards the European places.

The fact that once he'd played a big part in doing what we signed him for, he wasn't able (as others were) to raise his game once there is a bit of a pity, but nothing worse than that.

Bailey, not just in that Man City game more than played his part. In the last few seasons he’s been stealing a living. He barely looks like a footballer now.

It's not just his pace which seems to have dropped but he simply doesn't know what to do when he gets the ball. Even when he does beat his man, he turns back into trouble. it's the risk of playing someone left footed on the right, more often than not theyl turn back onto their favoured foot.

He's obviously a confidence player, but he either doesn't trust his body or his ability to play at the level he was. It's a shame, because when he was on fire he was exceptional.

When on it he was fun, exciting and very effective. When he was off it he was woeful. I'm glad we had him and wish the best if he leaves.

At his best he was up with the best wingers we've seen at Villa. Problem is, at his worst he was right down with the poorest, and we've seen far too much of the latter.

Wish him well anyway. Hope we can get this done, as he needs a fresh start and so do we. He's obviously a confidence player and maybe a new environment will see him get back to his former self. I wouldn't begrudge him that.
