Was a nice surprise to see that Bailey yesterday, been waiting all year to see him again.

Got to byline, got in crosses that won set pieces and scrambles in the box, nothing amazing but stood out given how terrible we were.

However no chance he'd have been told to do that if he had started given our approach. It would've been checking back, running infield and losing the ball.

And if he could unsettle Palace in ten minutes why was he coming on after weeks out injured ahead of Malen who has been in really good form this month when given a chance?

Yes, pleased to see this performance after the season he’s had, not to mention first hit out after the injured spell.

I still think much of his troubles are due to how we set up at right back. He’s consistently double teamed by the opposition. Early season I thought it was partly to do with how productive he was last season, but teams also worked out that Cash will generally do his pull back at the halfway line routine. It’s even more pronounced when we go extra defensive with Konsa/Disasi… at least Cash is a potential threat attacking down that side, whereas those two pose no danger whatsoever.

Palace setting up with 5 at the back helped Leon as well… he was generally taking on the full back who didn’t get as much help from the wide midfielder tracking back.

If Rashford was fit, Bailey wouldn't have been on the bench. I suspect Malen was being saved for the CF replacement in Rashford's absence. As for why Malen doesn't start on the wing, I suspect because he doesn't always track back to help out the defence, although if he was starting, I would have had him not doing that as much anyway and have him supporting Watkins on fast breaks. BUT that is Captain Hindsight talking.

I didn't see the game but it was touching to see footage of him having a moment on the pitch at the end.

Didn't we give him a new deal towards end of last season? Bit odd if we were looking to move him on last summer when he'd just played a very good year.

And maybe why he's not been anywhere near as good this season. Not putting his body on the line so he doesn't get injured etc.

As much as I like him he’s been a massively underwhelming signing.

Strong rumours of a Saudi deal for similar money we paid for him (£30M IIRC)

That would be a good result for us.

Think that’s harsh. He hasn’t hit the heights we wanted consistently, but he had one absolutely sensational season where he was instrumental to finishing 4th. He burned bright for a short time, but lots of signings don’t get to that level.

You could see him being part of a deal to get Rash full time. I don't think Villa will want to pay 40m based on what he's done so might dangle leon to tempt them. Their two wingers are kids they could use the experience and they might lose garnacho anyway so they'll perhaps need another wideboy

They've already got the ultimate wideboy
