Does anyone know what other warm-up fixtures the U-23s have? There's nothing on the OS about this?

They're at Stafford on Saturday.

Ta, Dave.

Any idea where and when the U-23s are playing Chesterfield in pre-season?

It seems to have gone unmentioned but we've completed the signing of Albion's Academy player of the season, Tim Iroegbunam, on a 4-year deal. Apparently he and Louie Barry played together at Sutton United when they were very young.

Tim is a good number 8, box to box. Intelligent and hard working. Money talked again as he would have most have been on the fringes of the first team at WBA and would have certainly been training with 1st team.

To catch or overtake the 2 Manchester clubs,Liverpool and Chelsea we need this devolopment of young talent.Chelsea have had at their disposal an incredible array of young players, fortunately quite a few have left as their path to first team football has been blocked.
Villa need to create an open pathway and not create a big squad of senior players. It might penalise the first team in the short term but in 4-5 years we could be reaping huge rewards.

Thanks Rotterdam. Saying how cheap it is to sign the best young developmental talents, it's perhaps surprising that no-one else has really considered a sustained approach of gearing a club towards ensuring that long-term recruitment is done this way, with big money moves only going where gaps need filling.

A top academy prospect may cost between £250K and £500K (lets say) dependent upon years there and age.
My thoughts are the same as you OCD, 'throw enough darts and you'll score a bullseye or two'.

With an environment where they've got some of the best coaching, great facilities, lots of one-on-one time, great first team prospects, individual plans and a group of similarly talented players, we must be giving ourselves a great chance. Before now, we may have had one or two talented kids who were able to rest on their laurels because there was no competition within the group. This approach means that it will be very competitive and if they don't continue to develop, they may struggle for games.

I think Trialist 1 and Trialist 2 were in there somewhere.

Yes, this is what we want. The bright lights from the Youth Cup team cutting their teeth at senior, competitive level.

Mind you...aren't Swindon a bit of a basket-case at the moment?

The lad from Bournemouth and Cameron Archer played at Stafford, as did either Stefan or Luke Moore (opinion is divided)'s son. Let that sink in for a moment.
