Not involved in 18 man squad, I make out to be:

Guilbert
Luiz
Sanson
Buendia
Bailey
Trezeguet
Wesley
Davis

We certainly have the numbers this season but I think I'd sacrifice quantity (three or four outgoings) for quality (one or two more incomings).

I thought we were much better with the three in midfield with Carney playing just off the front in the second half.  We played the ball quicker when we packed the centre of the park and had forward thinking midfielders on the pitch in Ramsey and Hourihane.  Poor set plays again, but hopefully, Austin McPhee will sort those.  I don't think the 442 was as effective.  Lovely third goal and some great interplay between several players.  We gave away a poor goal and I hate the zonal marking thing.  With Bailey, Buendia and hopefully a couple of others to come in, we will better.  Looks grim for Wesley and Freddie, not on the bench today as far as I could tell.  Hope Watkins is ok.

Got to have Ashley on from the start next week

Agreed. Same starting line up as today except Young and Buendia for El Ghazi and Bidace. If Watkins is unfit keep El Ghazi in.
I assume Bailey won’t be ready. Not sure what’s happening with Buendia?

Hip apparently. He's still doing gym work in the training vids of recent, probably not involved in contact as a precaution.

2 years older than gabby too. Careers went very different ways!
Gabby lost his pace after his injury. He was very average without pace.

Thought Jacob Ramsey showed good feet in the lead up to Young's goal. Can't see us signing any more players now, Dean will have a headache, I feel, in choosing the starting line-up next week.

I do agree we need to be better on dead balls, the irony being that we could well start next week without any of El Ghazi, Young and Hourihane. I do hope El Ghazi starts though. At least Matty Cash appears to have been working on throw-ins; a great one into the box in the first-half.

2 years older than gabby too. Careers went very different ways!

One took his career very seriously, the other simply didn’t. Both when younger in the same side were about the same in terms of potential.

Disagree. Gabby's outstanding talent was his pace. Young had far more in his locker, technically superior.

It is interesting though - they were great mates at Villa. Like you said, the difference in how they applied themselves for the second half of their careers...like night and day.

It’s easy to forget and be unfair to Gabby’s career at its height. Yes his most identifiable and potent attribute was his pace. But he could score with both feet, and despite not being the tallest player, outstanding in the air. He bulked up and lost a lot the edge his pace gave him and the rest of his career doesn’t need to be rehashed.

I don't think anybody can say Gabby was not a good player  at his peak.  I just feel his peak ended far too soon and some of that was lifestyle choices

Good shout. The Brummie boy in both cases didn't push-on.

Does staying local make it easy to take it easier (your loved in your hometown (mostly), your mates and family are there to distract you etc.)? I wonder if any of that was playing on Grealish's mind or his representatives this summer.

It could work the other way with Grealish. His family did everything for him throughout his 25 years and were always there for him. He doesn’t have that now. Of course he can have a pleather of servants around him now at his beck and call but they won’t be able to do Jack’s favourite dishes they way Mom does them. Missing the family support
Unit is not to be underestimated in his case.

Won’t his mom and dad be moving to Manchester?
