^^ But it’s not about sustainability. And the rules are voted on by the clubs in their own self-interest, be they the Greedy 6, or clubs who want to stay clear of the bottom three.

We’ve just got to get on with it, and the owners have to find ways to pump their/other peoples’ money into the club, plus raise legitimate revenue.

I don’t see the point of coming on here or twitter and just saying ‘it ay fair’ over and over again.

Well said Percy. We know the financial rules aren’t fair that’s been obvious for at least 10 years, the focus should always be on what the club are doing about it. They’ve made huge strides in the period since Unai’s been here on commercial income, they just need to keep pushing that forwards. My own view is another top 4 finish and a Champs League campaign will help us break the €500m turnover figure and that will bring with it some sustainability in terms of SCR. It won’t fix it but it’ll be better than the current position and mean we can strengthen our squad.

It is also harder to keep a straight face when saying it ay fair if you also look at some of our dreadful transfer business in recent years.

We have done very well despite our transfers, not because of them.

On the plus side, we got Kamara, Martinez, McGinn, Tielemans, Duran, Bizot, Barkley, Cash, Lindelof, Luiz, Rogers and Konsa for less than what we got for Grealish. So it’s not all doom and gloom.

Highest revenue ever by a club outside the commercial six (you’ll never sing that).

Heck was understating it at £360/370m then. Never had him down as a playing things down kinda guy. So I’m pleasantly surprised by the revenue, but on the downside, I thought we’d be about 12th in the league. Still, looking at the drop from 17th to 18th, we don’t look in much danger of relegation. Mind the gap, Stuttgart.

And yet despite this and no real we are FFP skint. Can barely spend a few quid without having to sell first. Make it make sense.

We’re good payers and these figures are for 24/25. We’re now in a year with a significant drop in broadcast revenue. We live on the edge.

Yeah, the way I see it is that with one extra point we would have been fine this season (and indeed, that is what they gambled on), but instead we have had to retrench and 'settle' in order to account for the 50+ million less income.

Overall, we are doing well and maximising every resource we can - but when we work right up to the limits of what is allowed, each shortfall has a significant impact.

If we look back in a few years time, this season could be either a) a blip in a long trend of upward growth, or b) missing out on CL being seen as the key to not taking advantage of the chance we had to break the hegemony.

I notice that the the biggest single challenge - unsurprisingly - is the gap between our commercial revenue and that of the clubs around us: we still lack the large, long-term deals that only come when we can guarantee CL football every season (which, of course, also drives the broadcast and gate receipts).
The size of the task is truly huge, given the advantages of the other Premier League clubs (whose finances were allowed to rise unchecked before FFP came in).

Indeed. We could do with more APTs from our owners and their associates/brothers etc.

The women are 7th in their list by the way, a few quid behind Real Madrid.

Which is reflected in the difference between us and Newcastle I guess.  Would imagine this season's figures will see them ahead of us given they are in the Champions League.

It's noticeable that Manchester United aside, the top ten on that list pretty much are the current top ten in the Champions League standings (Manchester City just outside it in 11th) and you'd have to go back to 2007 where one of them didn't win it.

Newcastle's broadcast revenue didn't drop that significantly despite missing out on CL. Are you expecting ours to drop by so much, Percy?

From the discussion we had a couple of weeks ago I’d say that’s a fair estimation.

Just looking at the figures for Newcastle and the drop in CL revenue was massively offset by a €50m increase in commercial revenue.
