The rules around FFP and SCR needs to include debt. Man U for example have considerable revenues so they can continue to buy at will. However a club as part of financial fair play shouldn’t just be allowed to accumulate mountains of debt. What happens if the Glazers one day call it all in. I’m sure their revenues will cover the interest to the bank, but it’s hardly fair on other better run teams if the rules tied to spending against revenues aren’t in some way also accounting for debt.

Fair doesn’t come into it. The rules are working exactly as they were intended to.

UEFA has us under massively punitive restrictions. Barcelona who can't register players but keep spending, despite the world knowing they're broke, not even batting an eyelid.

PSR is going.

Is it?? Fuckin hope so.
Premier League are aligning with UEFA's rules. It's SCR is worse for us.
In this context, what we’re doing this summer makes perfect sense. We’ll have to abide by those rules soon enough anyway, may as well do it in a way that gets rid of those conditional UEFA restrictions. That would seem to be the optimal approach.

Does a change in PL from PSR to SCR subject to the normal 14 vote thing?  If so it will happen when the European Super League cartel decide it works for them not before because the gratitude non competitive lemming clubs like Fulham / West Ham etc will vote exactly as they are told to

Already voted for I believe. We, along with Citeh and Manure also voted against tethering to whatever the bottom club is doing and got soundly trounced so I wouldn't put much into the theory that smaller PL clubs only vote with what they are told to by the big guys.

I'm pretty bored by it all. Didn't check the Newcastle score until a few hours after the game. Caveat is that I'm driving around Europe, but usually I'd still be locked on to it and fight to find a bar. Completely disengaged this summer too.

Think it's the capitalist nature of the game being advertised so unavoidably. Not sure how many fucks I have left to give at this stage. I'd rather watch competitive sport than figures on a spreadsheet projected on to a pitch.

Loving the golf and cricket though. Masters was top level drama and England - India great. Looking forward to the Ashes. Don't know who Villa have next.

I loathe this stuff.

People who feel the need to tell everybody how much they don't care about the Villa on a website where everybody self evidently cares way too much about the Villa.

It's best to assume that any rule change will make things worse for us. The maximum wage was introduced in 1901 to stop us dominating football and I can't think of any change that has benefited us since.

Yep, as I said all the sporting restrictions after this season are conditional so we can get ahead of them and not have to worry about that anymore. Getting Donk and Coutinho off the wage bill counts for something like £12m a year. We'll have mitigated some of that by them being loaned out but we'll have had to cover at least some of it.

It seems to me that part of our plan for this season is to do everything we can to trim away players that aren't offering anything to the matchday squad. Moreno will go as well and I wouldn't be shocked if we still see Buendia leave. Then we pick up 2-3 replacements who will actually be pushing for starts and the squad is both leaner but also more competitive and the wage bill looks tidier. A bit of a 'reset' summer that puts us in a better position to push on again next year.

It shows the long-lasting impact of failed managers. Hopefully, by the end of this season, everyone in the first team squad will be capable of contributing.

A question. Last accounts wages shot up from £194m to £252m. Is that likely to be (a) because it was 13 months instead of 12 and (b) owing to bonuses for qualifying for the Champions League. Therefor we should see a natural 7% reduction because it's one month less and also a reduction in bonuses as we only qualified for the Europa?

Wages are rarely going to go down. Players do well, they get new contracts on higher wages. Players do badly, they get sold and replaced with someone on higher wages.

I thought we were told the last figure was higher because of the 13 month accounting period.  Not sure on the bonus situation (and we will have the three highly paid loans to include from the back end of 2024-25), but surely the wage bill won't have increased any near in line with the increase in revenue we will have for the last year?

We've also moved on a bunch of players that were highly paid for very little return (Donk, Couts, Bailey) and Rashford, Asensio and Disasi dropping off the wage bill we're probably saving £750k a week (£39m)

If we assume our turnover was the £360m Heck suggested and that dropping from Champs League to Europa will cost us £50-60m then our aim for wages is to get under £210m. Based on the numbers available online (which aren't entirely accurate) our wage bill for 24/25 will end up being around £240m so the wages we've saved already do seem to push us into a 'safe' range. I'm assuming Bizot and Guessand are on similar money to Olsen and JJ.

We were supposedly paying Olsen £50k per week, Bizot was on £10k per week at Brest so while we've probably upped that I imagine we're saving quite a bit there.
