He's a very busy player, whatever he does. I like him. Needs to add goals, but he was our best player yesterday.

Both Buendia and Martinez are from the same village in Argentina!
They spend lots of time together off the pitch

Gerrard said: “He was my personal man of the match. OK, there were a few things within the performance that I’m sure Emi will try and improve, that’s the sort of kid and character we’re talking about.

“He epitomised what I wanted from the 90-minute performance. He was competing for headers, he was sliding and won everything he could out of possession. He died on the pitch, he was getting kicked and some of his football was terrific. Just that real energy and passion and fight, committing to a game-plan, I was absolutely delighted with Emi and he’s been getting better and better each week.

“We’ve sat him down and spoken with him about certain situations but I really loved his performance. He epitomised everything that I want to stand for.”

Yep, he's the player we thought we bought. Just taking some time to settle in.

Ever since I expressed (slight) doubt he's been consistently brilliant. No cause and effect there - obviously - I just didn't expect him to ram my lack of knowledge back down my throat so quickly. Absolutely loving his work.

Hope that doesn't curse him.

I never like to see a new player struggling and his surge up the ladder is brilliant to see. Every time he goes past someone or plays a killer I'm like his fuckin dad.

Has he been taking secret training lessons from Dion Dublin? He's winning a lot of headers in great positions lately. Last 4-5 games he's had chances and today's goal has actually been coming. As much as anything it's his movement too. Superb.

When was the last time we had a player score as many headed goals in a season as 5ft 7in Emi Buendia is going to get this season?!?!
