Should we have the star? Absolutely, yes.  However, I agree with the suggestion that it should be UEFA mandated. Once you've been Champions of Europe you can have the star and that's it. Rather like the time when you could only have triangular corner flags if you'd won the FA Cup.

I cannot for the life of me understand any opposition to reverting to this crest. It is a masterpiece of simple design and superior to almost every other crest in football.

I’m expecting/hoping we’ll see a badge rebrand when the new stand is opened. Seems an ideal time to do it, with the new shop, museum etc being launched too.

There isn't any significant opposition to going back to it but isn't there a copyright issue that means we can't.

A selection of crests I have in my 'Kits' folder for making football kits on FIFA.

00s shield:

1950s shield but I edited it to have a gold lion:

1950s shield:

Updated 70s:

Updated 70s with gold lion:

Don't think there'd be an issue using an updated version of the 70s crest.

My preferred option is one of the above for media and documents and an embroidered gold lion on the kits and training stuff, similar to Liverpool and Tottenham:

Thanks for sharing all those, I'd give you a gold star but fear it might not be well received.

As gorgeous as the old 70s/80s badge is, the only small criticism I can think of is that "it's been done" - by which I mean, clubs like Chelsea, Middlesbrough and others have already adopted the old school, round badge look. We would be very late in doing so, if that mattered at all.

I think the club opened a proper can of worms with changing the badge but opening it up to a vote - they simply will not be able to please everyone. Add to that, there's probably a correlation between the badge in use when we grew up and our preferred style, so finding a consensus might be tough. An example, I still love the original stripey badge with the Prepared banner beneath it. The one with the broken up Lion? Love it! Classic Aston Villa!

The lions on the two shields look like they're trying to find their way around around a house in the dark

we need to get rid of 'prepared' - we're clearly not most weeks on the pitch.
