I'm losing a bit of confidence in Smith.

I think I must be tripping because, to me, we played really well in that half. I'm going to have a mezcal and reassess.

Quote from: The Beeb's verdict
A very decent first half comes to an end.

All square and all to play for in the second half.

Doesn't seem to tally with the views on here.

Personally I'm fuming but that's because I've been listening to Clinton Morrison.

Watkins needs to get himself in front of goal, two great crosses across the box and no-one there to put it away.

Seen far far worse in recent weeks against poorer teams than them.

Poorer teams than the Baggies?  What on earth are you on about, there's only one team poorer, and we managed to lose to them!

I'm going more by their last 6-7 games, they've won 3 of them so without checking that's probably more than Fulham, Brighton, Southampton Newcastle, Palace and perhaps even Arsenal. And errr ourselves.

I guess it's a low bar but we were truly dire v likes of Fulham and Newcastle for most of the game so this has been an improvement against similar level of opposition.

At least we've had shots on target and some decent passages of play which have seemed near impossible for most of the last two months without Jack.

I think that first half typifies the different expectation levels of us on this site

Nobody is really right or wrong it’s just people have their bar set at different heights
It’s as simple as that really

I hate watching this Villa side. Huge rebuilding required.

Bar Grealish and the back four, I can't say I'd be sorry to see any this this team jettisoned in the Summer.

What, you’d get rid of Watkins? Luiz, McGinn? We might not be brilliant tonight, but that’s a massive overreaction. The last thing we need is yet another massive rebuild.

McGinn's been poor this season for me.  Luiz is too inconsistent and Watkins misses far too many chances

I’m too losing confidence in Smith, irrespective of what unfolds 2nd half.

At least we’ve tried to play some football, but it’s broken down a few too many times with the usual suspects at fault.

They’re going to have to try and go for it as the game goes on and they could leave space for us to exploit.

My real concern here is if they get the next goal.

They’re already hitting the deck at every opportunity and it will be Watford-esq if they get a lead.

Apart from Pereira who's obviously the best man on the pitch by several country miles, Baggies have offered the square root of fuck all. As usual, Villa get to the edge of the opponants' box with ease, but that's about it. Otherwise, I think we're doing OK. Barkley seems to be trying at least. But he's just not very good. McGinn's been sloppy, and I think Watkins flatters to deceive. Traore's a pain in the arse... But we knew all that. It's really not as bad as some seem to think... But then, I was a Happy Clapper under O'Neil (so they tell me!)

I think Traore has been woeful yet again. He frustrates the hell out of me. God knows what stick he would be getting if Villa Park was full.

Sorry but I have been very passionate in my life when we play this lot, this game is passing me by.
They have looked more likely to score than us
Two soft penalties
Them hitting the bar and other set piece chances
Us faffing around and not looking like scoring
Agree with BC villian would not miss any of these apart from the defence and Watkins
