Steven Davis
« on: March 26, 2021, 03:06:39 PM »
Searched for a previous thread on him but couldn’t find one, so I just thought he deserves a bit of appreciation for equalling the British record for caps for his country.  Well done Steven and I must confess that although I thought you were not a bad player I didn’t think for a minute you would break this record! 👏🏻

Done well for an Ashley Westwood prototype.

Norn Iron don't exactly have an abundance of quality but fair play to him for turning up for every international camp over the past 15 years. Great dedication and discipline.

Thought it was a mistake at the time by MON to sell him. Was a very tidy footballer, instead we wasted money on dross like Sidwell. Brilliant player for Norn Iron over the years and a great pro.

He started off promising with us. MON wasn't sure what to do with him - he's had a good career.

Much better all round player than Ashley Westwood.

Probably even now, at the fag end of his career.

Not sure, Westie holds his own in midfield for a team that are at about Southampton's level when they let Davis go to Rangers a couple of years ago.

In checking the above, Wiki says that Davis holds an MBE for services to football !

Davis scored his first Villa goal against Saints, for whom he later became a club legend, in 2005, aged 20. We'd gone 2-0 down to goals from past and future Villa players, Peter Crouch and Kevin Phillips, before coming back to win 3-2, Davis scoring the winner.

Davis was always a busy little player, capable of taking players on in his younger days and getting a few shots off as well.

Westwood was just a square ball merchant - and went through phases of his Villa career shirking even that limited responsibility.

He seems to have had some sort of revival at Dyche's Dynamos in fairness. Or maybe it's just tallest dwarf syndrome with the other shit kickers around him there.

Fair play to him, always liked him. Even though he has played for two horrible clubs in Scotland.

Great career, wish more of it had been at Villa.

Always put me in mind of Chesney from Corrie. Not sure if that's a plus or a minus.
