I still think it was a penalty, and one that didn't need to happen. Luiz is behind him and with arms on him before the clip.

The difference is we wouldn't have been given it against them.

The thing is no one else is talking about the arms.  It's all about the "clip"  that's why it's bollocks.  Overall can I see why it might be given of course.  Do I think its shoukd have been No

I think the arms on him is what made them give it.

Watching it live I thought it was a nailed on pen. But having seen replays from various angles I now think it's obvious that Pogba makes contact with the back of Luiz's leg then trips himself up. The referee himself could of come to the same conclusion if he had used the available tech and gone over to the monitor. Piss poor from the ref and he's supposed to be our best one. God help us.

It’s piss poor from the VAR officials. The ref saw the same as everyone else, that it looked a penalty at first sight so there is no reason for him to ask to see it again. Without VAR it’s a penalty, but we have VAR & they should have DIRECTED him to take another look.
It does provide an interesting conversation about what a ‘clear and obvious error ‘ is though.
Is it when the referee has made a really bad call, or when someone has cheated really convincingly?

Maybe clampy but not one "expert" has suggested that maybe because it's obvious that was 6 of one and half a dozen of another

Your last point hits the nail on the head. Pogba cheated convincingly. I've been debating that pen all day. That description sums it up perfectly.

Doesn't prove anything though, does it? Unless Ferguson is giving out blowjobs, I'm not sure what influence a retired manager is going to have on a game - beyond the clear bias that already exists.

I don't think any of us could genuinely be surprised by the idea of officials favouring Man Utd (and Liverpool, for that matter).

It would shock me to find out the officials aren't there to do everything they can to make sure the most marketable team wins.

Oh god, I cannot find the words to express the intensity with which I hate them.

I went to a school which was around 70% Man Utd plastics from 2000-2007. Somebody braver than me can look up our record against them in those years and imagine what countless Monday mornings were like.

'Hate' does not do it justice.

Big day out for the (shit) referee and his (shit) assistants!
