I just looked through the remaining fixtures and got about 28 points. Which would be 63. That may or may not be enough for Europe, but will be good enough for top half.

It's easily good enough for top half. We finished in 6th on 60 points in 07/08 and then 62 points a year later so I reckon that sort of haul would get 7th.

We actually only got 63 points in 95/96 so 65 points could be a target as that would represent our best points haul after 38 games for a long time.

I changed the thread title as I didn't want to have my name changed to Jonah. But I'm very happy for all optimists to post their what if scenarios on here.

Final table if everyone keeps clocking up points at their current rate ...

1. Manchester City - 86pts
2. Manchester United - 74pts
3. Leicester City - 71pts
4. Everton - 67pts
5. Liverpool - 66pts
6. Chelsea - 64pts
7. West Ham Utd - 64pts
8. Aston Villa - 63pts
9. Spurs - 62pts
10. Leeds Utd - 55pts
11. Arsenal - 51pts
12. Soton - 50pts
13. Crystal Palace - 48pts
14. Wolves - 44pts
15. Brighton - 41pts
16. Newcastle - 41pts
17. Burnley - 39pts
18. Fulham - 26pts
19. WBA - 20pts
20. Sheff Utd - 18pts

There ain't a whole lot of points separating 4th place from 9th.  Can see us scraping in to Europe, provided we can stay injury free and we get on a bit of a run.

The double headers against Spurs and Everton are real 6 pointers !

Plus games in Feb vs Leeds (keep them in their place and get revenge) and Leicester (drag them back into it) are very important too. Having Wesley back in the next few weeks could be really important to give us an option to mix it up in the last 15 minutes to get extra points.

We could do with Man City beating Spurs in the League Cup Final, and someone who finishes above us winning the FA Cup, too.

Whats the lowest down the table that a spot in Europe could  be won, 8th? And what about this new Europa League Vauxhall Conference competition they're introducing...do we get that for being top half ?

Looking at this: https://editorial.uefa.com/resources/0263-10c848fb43cc-49ac1262ab7c-1000/access_list_2021-22_final.pdf?iv=true

I might be wrong, but I've taken it as there's basically the same number of spots as before. Top 4 go in to the Champions League (CH, N2, N3, N4), the cup winners & 5th place go in to Europa League (CW, N5), and the 6th placed team goes in to the Europa Vauxhall Conference (N6).  although presumably one of those N5/N6 pair will be the league cup winners (N6?)

So 7th is the absolute lowest place you could get away with, if both cups were won by teams in the top 6.

If........we win our two games in hand vs spuds and toffees we would be 4th... no ? Therefore 2nd to 9th is achievable and I see no reason to give up on 2nd just yet.

So if we get the lowest ranked European spot we wouldn't even be in the Europa League, we'd be in the new one. Is that right?

Yes.
Is this just a revamped Inter Toto?

Toto you say ?

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in, 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you"
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had (ooh, ooh)
The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless, longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had (ooh, ooh)

6 pointers vs Spurs and Everton instead of the likes of Bournemouth, Watford, Brighton or Norwich. What a difference a year makes.

Mods!! This ought to be worth a warning. In fact it ought to be worth a trial at the Hague.

Hmm reminds me of 2008 when we finished 6th but had to do the Intertoto route (and lost Bouma) due to Spurs deciding to win their only trophy in 20 years by beating Chelsea in LC final and then Portsmouth randomly won the FA cup.

Has any club in recent times finished 6th and not made europa? It's happened to us twice in in last 20 years as we also missed out in 2004 as Millwall made FA cup final that year.

Yes.

Thanks for clarification. I won't quote any song lyrics but suffice to say it isn't a revamped Intertoto, more an even less celebrated Europa League. I guess when we haven't been anywhere near Europe in a decade it is a bit churlish to complain but the Europa Conference League hardly sets the pulse racing. Although it may provide some opportunities to take the road less travelled. The final is in Tirana for example!
