I've noticed a lot of commentators have mentioned in our games about how 'not at their best' the opposition have been, as if the common denominator must be something other than us.

Absolutely. If he'd wanted to be flashier he could have made this look like an amazing keeping performance. But because he makes everything look so routine, it ends up looking like he's not needed to do much.
