There was one against us last week that was similar to the Hause challenge wasn't there, ie a bit late at ankle height, that rightly only got a yellow.  Completely different to Livermore's wild shin high lunge at Jack.

Genuinely thought he went for the ball with his studs, was a bit late and caught the Albion player instead.  I personally wasn't sure about Livermore's being upgraded to red, though it did look particularly bad from the one angle. 

Livermore's was  reckless lunge; Hause's was a mistimed tackle.

I’d agree with this. Livermore was in the air when he held his leg and kicked out. Hause was clumsy, but a red wouldn’t have been a cause to complain myself. We got a little lucky I think, a different VAR referee and it could be different. Anyway, a hugely satisfying result and performance.

Shin? Only because Jacks leg was high otherwise it would have been knee. Either way I'm glad Jack wasn't planted.

On review of the video, I can't believe Livermore actually got up to remonstrate at Jack for "reacting".

Another brilliant team performance, and great to see that maybe the squad is a bit stronger than we all think.  If we do go out and buy anyone in January then it had to be a serious upgrade on what we have at the moment - not to jinx anything, but it really does feel now like there is a chance to get top 6-8.  There are a lot of up and down teams in the league this year who can look world-beaters one week and rubbish the next, whereas we look like a consistent side now who will be tough for anyone to beat.

The only thing that annoyed me last night was the coverage of Hause's challenge on BT Sport.  I know they have to find things to talk about, but this was a blatant example of the pundits being told to create a controversy where there wasn't one.  There was absolutely no equivalence with Livermore's challenge - Livermore jumped off his feet with studs at knee-height, after the whistle had gone.  Hause mistimed a tackle with both feet on the ground, and caught the players ankle and top of his boot.  Slo-mo can make tackles look far more dangerous than the reality so play them at full speed - if you do then Hause's tackle is barely noticeable, whilst if anything Livermore's looks even worse.

It didn't need a VAR review straight Red by Atkinson not yellow should have been awarded.

What was significant Livermore knew.
He looked up to which colour card it was when Atkinson reached for his pocket . He was already fearing it would be red.

I proclaimed pre match and match thread once line ups were made that  Livermore or Gallagher  would be sent off.
And said AEG to score cos we'll get a pen!

When essentially villa are playing a low level opposition,  wba are very championship based ability,  then fouls and penalties will be conceded so to me I fully expected seeing Livermore at least to  be booked in the game as he's a limited brute who has got by on that good old effort and physical ability.

I've read this Livermore was selected by Southgate for  England national team and was on stand by for world cup 2018.

These players don't impress me and Dean Smith and they need to be pushed out of top level English football .
Game has moved on from Livermore sort and he's lucky to have even been on same pitch as Jack Grealish in the first place.

The difference between the Livermore sending off and the Hause challenge is that Hause's was at least a tackle, Livermore's wasn't a tackle, it was an assault.

I was irrationally nervous at 1-0 with 15 to go, considering how dominant we were. Just hard to shake off the villa of recent years, who would of let a soft equaliser in against the run of play.
We were so dominant all over the field from start to end, it didn’t end up feeling like a derby. Everyone had a good game, and as has been said the wingers were impressive, but I thought McGinn, was superb.
The only disappointment is the decision to disallow Watkins goal. He wasn’t ahead of the defender even with all the stupid lines, he was level at worse, and unless the rules have completely changed, level is on side. He played well tonight, but you can see through his body language that he needs a goal now, positively he still keeps getting in good positions.
Great win though and we are looking so good.

After Watkins’ goal was chalked off, I thought nailed on they’ll hit us on the counter and fluke a goal, match ends 1-1. For previous iterations of the Villa, that would have been inevitable.

I can't quite get my head around how 18 months ago we finished below them in the 2nd division table and tonight if looked like a 3rd round cup game against a 3rd division side.

How we've progressed in that 18 months is phenomenal.

On Livermore and Hause I think the difference was height, the former made contact with his leg, latter with his foot. That's a big difference when it comes to the control of the tackle.

The Hause was similar to the challenge on Jack by Burnley thug so you can say that is consistent.
Livermore has both feet off the ground and that gets you sent off these days, he had already got away with 2 fouls on Jack so you know what he was trying to do.

Yep, I agree, I knew there was a recent one on Jack that was similar but I couldn't remember if it was Burnley or Wolves.

Well, on this wet and dingy Monday morning I am up, I'm showered, I'm dressed and I still feel as good as I did yesterday evening.

We may not have been ruthless last night, but boy we were relentless, right from the off, and I loved that after our third goal our instincts were to go all out for a fourth, in what little remained of the game.

One of my favourite moments came just after the game, as the teams were leaving the pitch, and the cameras panned right in to Callum Robinson having a good old laugh with Jack Grealish.  How the Baggies fans will have loved seeing that beamed into their living rooms!

Exactly. He lunged in two-footed and went over the ball. He could have snapped his leg in half. Hause's was a mistimed tackle. It deserved a yellow, but nothing more than that. Livermore's was a red all day long.

Robbie Brady.  Same challenge.  Booking probably about right even if I was baying for a red.  Even so one of these tackles does remind me of that clobber Martin Taylor against that Arsenal player a few years back.

Livermore literally was trying to cause him serious injury.  I have no doubts in my mind.  He was snarling.  Very bad behaviour from a pro towards another.

The McGinn header should've been the 2nd, that was a brilliant chance and I agree 6-0 wouldn't have flattered us, it was one of the most one-sided games I've ever seen.
