Oh and another thing. Michael Owen said we misspent a lot of money last summer.

Well tonight of that misspent money last summer we had Mings, Hause, Targett, Luiz, AEG on the pitch, Heaton, Nakamba and Engels on the bench and Wesley still out after Mee assaulted him.

The laziness is unreal from some of these ex players now sitting in the media who have done next to no research at all.

Owen was a great player but a renowned dullard. I remember the Daily Mirror running an article about his first autobiography (first!) in which he kept a diary, including such insightful gems as:

8.30 am - stopped at the corner shop and bought a banana and some lemonade.

To be fair though, he’s upfront about being dull. He’s perfectly honest in admitting he’s never read a book or watched a film...

And also managed to make his wife a cup of coffee. Once

The second goal seemed to take an absolute age to come. Well worth the win, even before their bloke decided to try and cripple Jack. Most players impressed, Traore especially. That goal was just a piss take.

The chances of Sam Allardyce keeping West Brom up are precisely zero. I’m not sure even Jesus would back himself to save them.
Jesus only deals with miracles. Nothing higher.

The second goal seemed to take an absolute age to come.
I had some feeling there that we might not be able to score again - as against Burnley, and that they might get a fluke goal - typical Villa last seasons. After the match AEG did tell that last season they might not have won like this but now they where confident and knew what to do (to win games like this) - or words to that effect. Good to hear.

Tonights win and the bookies are shortening odds of us finishing top 4. Generally it's about 20/1.
If you think that's a bit out of our reach this season maybe you fancy your fiver on Arsenal getting relegated and you get similar odds.

Just what was needed to lift the spirits given what is going on at the moment. Still not entirely convinced by El Ghazi and Traore, but they both produced tonight.

Think Hause and Mings deserve a mention as well, as although they weren't threatened too much, neither put one foot wrong throughout the game.  Would have been easy to switch off given our dominance in the game, but they were both very solid.

Even when it was 11v11, we looked a class above them. First half our midfield duo of Luiz/McGinn completely dominated and our widemen combined brilliantly for the goal. A second seemed inevitable even before the red card. Dominant obviously from that point forward, though it was a bit disappointing it took so long to get the second. Fine goal it was with a classy finish by Traore. It could have been any score for a finish but we'll take three. Not sure why Deano doesn't run the changes when we have games won. Watkins very poor in the first half but did improve after the break.

We are playing very well now for a number of weeks.

Martinez 7, Cash 7, Hause 7, Mings 7, Targett 7, Luiz 8, McGinn 7, Traore 9, AEG 8, Jack 9, Watkins 6

Without the likes of De Bruyne providing the service to him it would be next to impossible.

Appears that penalty shootout win in the play-off semi-final was a bit of a sliding doors moment in our respective histories.

A stroll in the park. Slight worry they might jam an equaliser at 1-0 but they didn't have a chance all game. Merry Christmas everyone
