Why no Lifetime Achievement Award, the obvious choice would be Gareth Barry, player with the most appearances in the Premier League.

It's not a great list and they were a bit put out in Norn Iron that Jonathan Rea wasn't on it after winning his 6th World title in a row. Certainly deserved it more than Jordan Henderson. Of those on the list I'd go for Rocket Ronnie.

It's rare that minority sports people get nominated though, however well they've done. The general public usually have to have at least heard of them.

To be fair he came 2nd in 2017 (to Mo Farah) in a strong field after his 3rd World title so he's likely known to some extent.

I think the award is a farce now, for a country that gives very few shits about watching tennis or motor racing to have given 5 of the last 8 to those sports is a bit of a pisstake. Add in all the cyclists that win regularly and it's pretty clear that the sports people actually watch regularly are well down the list of potential winners for some reason.

Andy Murray absolutely deserves all that he has won, not sure why you would put him in the same bracket as Hamilton. It isn't like he has a magic racquet that gives him an unfair advantage over all his rivals.

I'm not sure he does, he was a fantastic player and had a couple of very good seasons but for an award like this I really dislike the "Yeah he's still good, lets give it to him" attitude that led to him getting 3 awards in 4 years. I don't see his performances as any more dominant than Hamilton and I wouldn't have given him a 2nd award either. I just find the whole thing pointless now really.

Here are the stats for the sports with the most wins:

Athletics - 18
Formula One - 8
Tennis - 6
Football - 5
Boxing - 5
Cricket - 5
Cycling - 5
Figure skating - 3
Eventing - 2
Swimming - 2
Golf - 2
Swimming - 2
Horse racing, snooker, rugby union, show jumping, motorbike racing, rowing - all 1

I reckon athletics has a big advantage because people bloody love the Olympics, so a gold or golds in Olympic year is almost a guaranteed win. It's harder to stand out in team sports, unless you get a really standout performance like Stokes, or winning a World Cup like Wilkinson. Athletic also has by far the greatest number of second and third places.

2013 - won Wimbledon.
2015 - dragged Britain to their first Davis Cup win in eighty years or so.
2016 - won Wimbledon and became first tennis player to retain Olympic gold, as well as becoming first Brit ever to be World number one.

All while competing with three of the greatest of all time.

Struggling to see how any of those awards were undeserved.
