BBC SPOTY 2020
« on: December 19, 2020, 12:28:31 PM »
It's on tomorrow night and I've got BT Sport, so for the first time in 63 years, I will not be watching it, well might see the last 1/2 hour as it's goes until 10. The nominees are Stuart Broad, Hollie Doyle, Tyson Fury, Lewis Hamilton, Jordan Henderson and Ronnie O'Sullivan, yes I know no Jack, it's unbelievable. Tyson Fury has asked the Beeb to remove his name from the list, so if you want to vote for him, you'll need to contact him to get his permission. :)

My vote would go to Hamilton.

Hamilton, why did he build the car himself? When he wins a title driving for a shit team, he deserves to win it. Until then, nah.

O'Sullivan is a prick, too, but if they gave one to Giggs as, basically, a lifetime achievement award, then he probably deserves to have won one by now.

You could say that about anybody who's in a team sport in that case.

Doesn’t matter who wins the vote. The real SPOTY is Rashford.

From the list, I’d pick Broad.

To an extent, yes. There is a Team of the Year award, I believe.

Can't believe Emily Scarret isn't on the list. England Rugby outside center. Back to back 6 nations grand slams. Voted best female rugby player in the world, and the only unanimous selection, men or women,  by all judges, for team of the decade.

I'm with UKR in saying that Marcus Rashford is the clear SPOTY, and very impressed with Emily Scarret like Colhint (little known secret that women's rugby is a mile ahead of women's football in terms of being accessible and entertaining for fans of the male versions, to the point that I can argue the emphasis on angles, pace and movement in women's rugby makes it a much more enjoyable spectacle than the "bosh-and-kick" of the men's game) but what can you say when a list includes Jordan Henderson ?

From the list I'd go for Hamilton. Yeah, he has the best car, but he is still the best driver, equalled Schumacher's titles record this year and beat his wins record. Would have plumped for Fury, but he doesn't want it.

I watch most women's Rugby internationals on TV (I agree that it's very often more entertaining than men's internationals). Same goes for cricket. However, I can't get into watching women's football.

My interest in F1 has been rekindled a bit this year. I found the weather affected Turkish race especially entertaining.
I have grudging respect for Hamilton but still think that he's a bit of a nob.

It's not a great list and they were a bit put out in Norn Iron that Jonathan Rea wasn't on it after winning his 6th World title in a row. Certainly deserved it more than Jordan Henderson. Of those on the list I'd go for Rocket Ronnie.

She was my choice as well, she's miles ahead of any other player in the world right now, as soon as she wasn't in the list I decided I didn't care who wins. I'd go for Ronny if pushed purely because he's never got one despite being probably the best player in his sport ever.

Nearly broke my neck turning it over when Liverpool won team of the year. Turned back in time for the tribute to those we have lost from the world of sport, it gets me every time.

Not sure about the elegant pub singer though.

Bloke in fastest car wins most races. A remarkable achievement.

Look on the bright side, at least it wasn't Henderson or to put it another way, BLM 'activist' wins SPOTY in the light of Marcus Rashford's absence from the list.
