Spitting

Players spitting during games. Why is it overlooked? You don’t see it in any other aspect of life or even in any other sport. Imagine for example a snooker player gobbing onto the floor every time he approaches the table to take a shot, we’d be outraged. Yet footballers seem to do it as a matter of habit, it’s even spread to the ladies game. Is it some sort of subliminal defensive action? A celebrating goalscorer never spits, yet a player committing an offence will always be seen spitting as he walks away from an indiscretion. Perhaps a fine for every player caught on camera, with all monies donated to a worthy cause would soon stamp it out.

Exercise produces more mucus, so some people need to spit it out.  Snooker is hardly energetic so that's why they don't do it.

In particular outdoor exercise. You will see runners spit quite a lot too, but the need to isn’t the same on a treadmill for some reason!

It must be the outdoors. Playing squash I never needed to. Football, always had to. A long walk with the dog these days I need to as well. Into a tissue of course.

I’ve done plenty of sport in my life and still run when I can, I’ve never felt the need to spit. I hate it and just don’t get it.

Only today I saw a lad walking along then flob one out. It’s such a weird thing to do.

With indoor sports, the difference for me at least is that I can regularly have a drink of water if I need to.

I also still run and don't feel the need to spit, but I used to when playing football. The difference probably being that the repeated short sprints in a half of football are a lot harder work of than 45mins of steady running.

Proffessional golfers do it but i have only seen the American Players gobbing away, the money they earn surely a couple of hankies in the pocket is more sanitory.

It's disgusting, and unnecessary, what is amazing is the frequency of it.  It's not seen in other similar sports, eg rugby - league or union.
