Clear why we are in for at least one more winger.

I’d like to see Jack central and just off Watkins.  Apart from his deliveries Hourihane has been anonymous and McGinn not much different.

I think Hourihane's been good, and generally gets a bad rap on here.

Been our best player by a mile in first half!

That red card was scandalous, looked like we would batter them for about 10mins afterwards but we have lost our way since. Watkins in particular hadn't had a kick.

The defending for that penalty was a disgrace. Konsa committing himself way up the pitch, Mings showing a slow attacker infield and Targett being his usual abysmal self in giving away the penalty. Brilliant save by Martinez.

I think our team need a bit more patience on the ball, Jack to stay on left, and get our full backs much further forward. I'd also consider bringing Davis in for Trez at the break. Trez has been awful. McGinn anonymous too, would move him out right and try and get Cash in behind him.

Very important half time team talk and second half.

Carragher on Sky. It wasn’t a red card.

I’m sure when it was Mane yesterday he had a slightly different view...

McGinn hasn't really contributed much. He didn't at the end of the season either

Just like last term we need creativity in midfield and our most creative player is out wide.....

Have you noticed how much space there is, particularly on left hand side. Unfortunately, Targett has no pace and can only hit their first defender with his crosses. We can only hope we get a penalty and score from it as otherwise we don’t look like we’ll score. Need to get some high tempo going.

Can I just say it’s not easy playing against 10 men when all that the other team Is doing is defend.

I don't see it quite as negatively, but why the fuck are we so, shall we say, cautious along the front of the opponent's penalty area? I don't mean everyone should be constantly shooting from distance, but never?

Targett is abysmal. He'll be replaced, if he continues like that this season.

It's one of three areas we really should have looked to address and haven't so far this window.

And I say that as someone who can see a role for Targett in the future - either wide left of midfield or perhaps in the Stan Staunton or Barry role if we ever play three at the back. Distribution is one of his better qualities. Not today, obv.

Davis for Trez might be a good move.

With all the changes from wide it could be worth chucking Davis on and sacrificing one of the midfield 3.

Agreed.
They are parking the bus. But, the way to play against that is to move the ball around quickly.
We are just playing walking football in front of their lines and it’s easy for them.

Swap him with McGinn - push JM out wide and JG into the middle?

If centre halves are marked down for that sort of tussle every game red cards will be plentiful this year.
