Amazed that they dropped Norwood. Berge is more robust. Expect a hard old game with him and Lundstram in their mid midfield.

Bench reflects how far we still have to go to compete in the top half of the table - one or two injuries and we are drafting in Championship quality players. AEG and Davis are the only two attacking threats off the bench - very worrying. Traore obviously is an upgrade but boy, we need way more.
Strong first 11 so hopefully it'll click and they will overcome a disciplined SU.

Committing enough men forwards, but they're condensing the space between midfield and defence and sitting 5/10 yards deeper.
Think we need to quicken the play and movement around the box. Its going to be hard to get in behind them. Plenty of balls going in and half chances and moments, but nothing to clear cut.

First half analysis: Emi looks good, Cash looks like good purchase - lot of space on right and some good crosses, McGinn - absent, Grealish - too selfish, needs to release ball more often to teammates in better positions, Trez - best winger option we have currently, Watkins - started brightly but needs better service, Targett - GARBAGE! Been our best player by a mile in first half!
That red card was scandalous, looked like we would batter them for about 10mins afterwards but we have lost our way since. Watkins in particular hadn't had a kick.
The defending for that penalty was a disgrace. Konsa committing himself way up the pitch, Mings showing a slow attacker infield and Targett being his usual abysmal self in giving away the penalty. Brilliant save by Martinez.
I think our team need a bit more patience on the ball, Jack to stay on left, and get our full backs much further forward. I'd also consider bringing Davis in for Trez at the break. Trez has been awful. McGinn anonymous too, would move him out right and try and get Cash in behind him.

I think it's important to remember this our first game apart from an easy day out at Burton. You'd expect SU to be a little sharper than us.
It's not the sharpness, it's how we're approaching the game. Slinging crosses into the box isn't a particularly sensible tactic against Sheff Utd but that's all we seem to be able to do.
You'd think with Grealish, Luiz and McGinn in midfield spaces we'd be able to do more.
They are so compact, there is hardly any space between their midfield and defence, so we are having to side-to-side. It's not going to be easy to break them downloading, so I think there will be a fair bit of frustration going forward, but Targett getting caught like that for the penalty was pretty awful.

I'd've taken both performance and result before the game. Plenty to work on but some fine individual displays. Luiz was brilliant as the metronome, the keeper is calm and assured and there were signs from McGinn that he is getting back to his best.

3 points against a very awkward opponent. Got to be happy with that and especially with a clean sheet as a bonus. On the plus side the keeper looks top drawer and Konsa just gets better and better. On the minus side why did they keep lumping aimless balls into their box? That got annoying even though we got our goal from a cross. We need more variety to our game.
