I reckon he's going to start Elmo instead of Cash or Guilbert. Not sure why, just a feeling. We need to keep it tight at the back as they really should have scored against Wolves last week. I'll go for a decent 3-1 start.

You could be right.  Took him a while to trust Targett after a big money move last season, and he might take a cautious approach for the first match.

Yep, that happened last season at Spurs if I recall we were all expecting Guilbert and Targett, and we got Elmo and Taylor.

When you read the pre-match thread and realise after all the excitement and optimism we are likely to start with Hourihane in midfield again.  Not that I don't like him, but the with the general squad improvement going on one would have hoped he may have been relegated to a non-starter.

2-0 to us.

Martinez, Cash, Targett, Konsa, Mings, Luiz, Hourihane, McGinn, Grealish, Watkins, Trez.

Traore off the bench around 60. Davis off the bench around 70.

1 all, them taking the lead and us clawing it back late on.

Think the subs above will be about right too, although I think Elmo will start.

I can't see that they've got much up front to worry us.  Sharp is well past it and hasn't scored since Adam was a lad.  Mousset is injured, and McBurnie doesn't get many.  Norwood is a good player, but stick SJM on him and tell him to kick him if he gets too big for his boots and we'll be good.  3-0, fuck off Sheffield United, and fuck off Hawkeye.

Can you imagine the apoplexy if we get get another dodgy decision go our way?

I can see 3-4 very iffy VARs going against us tonight on the back of the rubbish written about that "goal"

So we pay £16 million for a new right back and don’t trust him to play the 1st game of the season?

Unbelievable- if that happens and I was chucking fortunes at this club like our 2 owners are, I would be on the phone asking some serious questions to the manager

Wasn't it £12m rising to £16m with add-ons? Either way I wouldn't expect Cash to play tonight especially having been handed his arse against Man Utd in the friendly. I hope we ease him in and not throw him in the deep end if he's not ready. As far too many of our players found out last season, it's a huge step up.

No, sack him, the man who bought him, and the kit man just because.

And Targett at left back....

Doesn't take a genius to recognise where the bulk of Sheff Utds play will be directed this evening.... At every opportunity in Bramall Lane last season they switched the play to target their right wing back against Targett. Eventually taking Jack out of the game by forcing him to help Targett out.

I'd be interested to see what condition McGinn is in this evening. Hope he has used the break wisely and a far more athletic player emerges today. Finished the season at 10 so that's where I expect him tonight with Trez and Jack either side.

A win would be great, a highly fortunate technology enabled one...even better

There hasn't been a single draw in this round of matches so I fully expect us to buck that trend.

1-1
