I reckon he's going to start Elmo instead of Cash or Guilbert. Not sure why, just a feeling. We need to keep it tight at the back as they really should have scored against Wolves last week. I'll go for a decent 3-1 start.

You could be right.  Took him a while to trust Targett after a big money move last season, and he might take a cautious approach for the first match.

Yep, that happened last season at Spurs if I recall we were all expecting Guilbert and Targett, and we got Elmo and Taylor.

When you read the pre-match thread and realise after all the excitement and optimism we are likely to start with Hourihane in midfield again.  Not that I don't like him, but the with the general squad improvement going on one would have hoped he may have been relegated to a non-starter.

2-0 to us.

Martinez, Cash, Targett, Konsa, Mings, Luiz, Hourihane, McGinn, Grealish, Watkins, Trez.

Traore off the bench around 60. Davis off the bench around 70.

1 all, them taking the lead and us clawing it back late on.

Think the subs above will be about right too, although I think Elmo will start.

I can't see that they've got much up front to worry us.  Sharp is well past it and hasn't scored since Adam was a lad.  Mousset is injured, and McBurnie doesn't get many.  Norwood is a good player, but stick SJM on him and tell him to kick him if he gets too big for his boots and we'll be good.  3-0, fuck off Sheffield United, and fuck off Hawkeye.

Can you imagine the apoplexy if we get get another dodgy decision go our way?

I can see 3-4 very iffy VARs going against us tonight on the back of the rubbish written about that "goal"

I really hope Villa are more offensive from open play and we score more goals this way.

I also hope we continue and progress to be solid defensively and concede few chances.

Really looking forward to the match and feel Sheff Utd aren't the most prolific if scorers so can have a decent first result hoping clean sheet and a couple of goals

2-0

Looking forward to the new signings working well with the team !

Up the Villa !

80-1 on a Villa 3-1 win with Watkins scoring first...

Decent bet that I reckon.
Good luck !

Jack Grealish 20/1 to score from outside the area.
Jack Grealish evens money to have a shot on target.

I think Grealish will outclass them to be honest.
And hoping Ref Referee: Graham Scott offers protection.
Wilder in the past has openly admitted the way to stop jack is to foul him .
Scott been a decent ref for us so maybe have a penalty ?!
Can anyone say is Grealish on Pens this season . Be good for his goal ratio and pay back from missing that one last season v Sheff Utd.

VAR is rush of blood to head Mike Dean by the way. Bilic debating partner

So we pay £16 million for a new right back and donít trust him to play the 1st game of the season?

Unbelievable- if that happens and I was chucking fortunes at this club like our 2 owners are, I would be on the phone asking some serious questions to the manager

Wasn't it £12m rising to £16m with add-ons? Either way I wouldn't expect Cash to play tonight especially having been handed his arse against Man Utd in the friendly. I hope we ease him in and not throw him in the deep end if he's not ready. As far too many of our players found out last season, it's a huge step up.

No, sack him, the man who bought him, and the kit man just because.
