With the reduced season, International and European fixtures there is no room in the calendar throughout OCt and Nov and most of Dec to fit it in. I quite like it but I’ve always been a fan of the League Cup.

Looks like the Villa match will be played Thursday 24th September. That's anything to go by on Sheffield Utd , Brighton playing their cup ties tomorrow who both played on Monday

Then the round 4 match Thursday 1st October.
Makes sense

Back in the 70s, they would play 3 games in 4 days over easter. 2nd replays in the cup, none of this knocking off early and going home after a quick penalty shoot out.
