Looks like we have been linked over the last few weeks by a few sources with Ruben Shakpoke, a striker from Norwich. The academy links seem to have more plausibility somehow, despite the apparently obscure sources. Perhaps the deals are just less complicated at this level? Anyway, there is definitely more ambition being shown by the club now that Harrison is onboard.

You could also argue that we are now just signing unproven players with potential at a young age at the expense of nurturing and developing the current crop by giving the better ones more opportunities. Hope the League Cup this coming season gives them some room for greater exposure.

I'd disagree with that. Adding extra quality in the academy is good for the existing players who've been with the club for years. Being the best player in the U10s, U12s, etc. means you're used to being the big fish and too often players like that (Delfouneso, Luke Moore) end up hitting a wall at about 17-18 and never really fulfilling that potential because the gap from where they are to the first team is too big for them. by adding extra quality at that time and letting the players develop together for a year or 2 the hope is that they all get nudged closer to being ready earlier.

The 2nd bit though is why I'd have liked the benches to stay as 9 players (even if we go back to only allowing 3 subs to be made). the extra couple of spots could be a great way to get youngsters around the first team earlier.

I would probably go a step further and saying that at least 2 of the subs have to be under 23.

Competition for places has got to be important for development. I think if a young player was the first on the team sheet every week with no competition, they could become complacent and may take things a little for granted. Then have a bit of shock when they realise how different it is in the Premier League. Really you want kids pushing eachother to be better.

I'd agree with that.

He's better than that, should've been at a league 1 or even a championship club.

I'd tend to agree with that and I don't think I put my point of view across very well after re-reading it. Would be nice to see the better players at that level being given more opportunities as compared to last season. Would love to see another Grealish come through from the start and make it.

The two stand-outs for me are Archer and Ramsey.

He looks a player although the standard of goalkeeping in some if those clips was terrible.

This doesn't look promising for a kid rated highly by several on here.

Grealish went on loan to Notts County. As long as they get game time and he's somewhere where they will be playing a similar style to us.
