Smith..."My feelings are embarrassment. It was a dreadful performance. We never competed well enough, never showed enough desire to get on the ball. The thing that hurt me the most was the lack of fight. That is the lowest of the low."

Denied the opportunity of his customary whinge about the officials he had no option but to be brutally honest.

It seemed like they were going at only 20% as they didn't want to get injured and miss the final. We've let in more goals in games but that was probably the worst I've seen us play this season.

Least that’s honest.
Thing is, he has to be ‘honest’ too often.
What’s HE doing about it?

He did have a moan about a Trezeguet offside.

Smith, "Some of the players have played themselves out of the cup final"

Agreed. But he should have also 'managed' himself out of Bodymoor Heath.

Old habits die hard I guess.

It's brutally honest but should have been delivered in the dressing room. Young millionaires don't like being called out like that by a manager. Tends to go only one way afterwards

I'm pretty sure it was brutal then that in the dressing room.

The definition of insanity "Doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result"

Week after week Dean keeps the same shape which constantly exposes our midfield and as a result it was 28 shots this week and 23 last week. That in itself is cause for making a change.

As for the recruitment policy it was so amateurish to buy all players with no premier league experience. He could have added some wise heads in midfield but instead we buy Luiz, Nakamba, Trez, El Ghazi with a sum total of zero premier league games.

I hope the owners take decisive action to protect their investment.

An Allardyce /Terry combination might work

It's all well for DS to give a brutally honest post-match interview, but it's up to HIM to get his players motivated, fit & properly organised. Sadly, it seems that any authority & respect that he may have once had has now completely evaporated.

Agree on all fronts.
