Just like the cricket, the weather has put a stop to the golf at Celtic Manor, play suspended due to the threat of lightning. At least they managed to complete the Ladies Scottish Open, Stacy Lewis winning there.

Following his first win on the European Tour 2 weeks ago, Sam Horsfield wins again at Celtic Manor, at the age of 23 looks a good prospect.

Terrible conditions today up at Troon for the Women's Open.

I see that Muirfield is the Venue for the 2022 Women's Open, good to see the members there have now moved from the 19th century to the 21st century.

A fantastic performance from Sophia Popov in the Women's Open at Troon, ranked 304th in the world she wins the championship by 2 shots on 7 under.

The first time for many years the European Tour returns to The Belfry today. Apart from Villa of course, the 1985 Ryder Cup at The Belfry was the best sporting event I have attended, the atmosphere was fantastic. It was the first time the USA had lost since 1957. Saw Ballesteros, Faldo,Lyle, Woosnam and Langer.

I was about 200 yards away, couldn't get any closer, from Sam Torrance when he sank the putt to win the Cup on the 18th. He was just a dot in the distance, I suppose a bit like watching football at West Ham.

If you didn't catch the finale to the BMW Championship yesterday between Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm, I suggest you go and seek out the video!

US Open starts today held at Winged Foot Golf Club in New York state, considered to be one of the toughest courses in the world. Last held there in 2006, when Colin Montgomerie needed a par on the final hole to win and ended up with a double bogey to lose by one stroke.

No Brooks Koepka, due to injury, in the field, Dustin Johnson is the favourite with the bookies, best English hopes Fleetwood, Fitzpatrick, Hatton, Rose and Casey.

17/2 Johnson, 10/1 Rahm, 14/1 Thomas and Schauffele, 16/1 Morikawa, 18/1 McIlroy, 25/1 Simpson and DeChambeau, Others 35/1 Fleetwood, 45/1 Hatton, 55/1 Woods and Fitzpatrick, 60/1 Rose and  Casey.

Patrick Reed and Bryson DeChambeau are the leaders going into the third round, not the most popular of golfers. Apart from Reed, Justin Thomas is the only other major winner in the top 10. Tiger misses the cut by 4 strokes, finishing on 10 over for the 2 rounds, he's gone from being the best putter in the world, to a very average putter.

A superb round of 65 gives 21 year old American Matthew Wolff a 2 shot lead going into the final round, playing in his first major, if he wins, he will be the first debutant in 107 years to win the US Open. Rory has given himself an outside chance of winning with a round of 68.

Well done Bryson DeChambeau winning by 6 strokes, to finish on 6 under for the tournament on such a difficult course as Winged Foot is some achievement, interesting to see how he gets on at The Masters in November. Great effort from Matthew Wolff on finishing 2nd in his first major, as for Rory another disappointing slam, had a final round of 75.

I want to hate him, but I have to admit to being impressed.   He set out to do something unconventional and he has succeeded, it's tough to knock him for that.
