I think DS may have been referring to El Ghazi. He showed a lack of desire on Saturday. Unless he was concussed which i very much doubt. He blatantly ignored Mings & Grealish when they both tried to get him off the pitch so we could take the corner which i found very strange. Of course i'm just guessing but there seems to be some bad blood there.

I thought that was a bit shit too. Injured or not, he only had to roll a foot to the right to allow play on. Maybe he didn’t want exposed with a player short in case the broke away quick after the corner. But it was odd-looking.

To have any chance of springing a surprise, we have to take a risk by changing the formation and line up. Just like Big Ron did in 94, as others have mentioned.

More of the same will just leave us wide open in midfield and we’ll get comfortably beaten, so I’d go with a 4141, reverting to 451 when necessary. I would drop those who are either woefully out of form / just not good enough / “played themselves out of the team” - AEG, Trez, Hause and Nakamba. Bring in Connor for his threat from set pieces and long range shooting. Bring in some more defensively minded players as if we try to play City at their own game, they will destroy us.

Then, pray that Wednesday’s huge game in Madrid takes it out of City, mentally and physically.

Pray that Jack has the game of his life.

Just generally pray.

(I know, I’m clutching at straws).

Nyland
Guilbert Engels Mings Taylor
Hourihane
Elmo Luiz Jack Targett
Samatta

Playing that team they may as well enter the pitch carrying a massive white flag. We have to attack, we aren't good enough to play defensively, but we are capable of scoring. Play with six defenders and it'll be an Arsenal-style abject surrender.

Watford have  never recovered from their 6-0 mauling by City in the Cup Final last May - if they put us to the sword like that neither will we. Only a win will do here to galvanize a late charge to avoid the drop.

Maybe, but Elmo and Targett can be decent going forward so I wasn’t suggesting playing to defend but being more able to defend when needed.

I suppose that’s why Dean is a PL manager whereas I manage an Under 11s team who play 9-a-side with unlimited substitutions allowed which helps if I do get my selections wrong!

If we could take them to pens - somehow we have a chance as city have been reallg woeful penalty record.

Do they do ET for sure in a final? Not straight to pens?

Drinkwater can't play can he ?

As in ineligible.......

So play him. Realise after 30 seconds that we've fucked up and concede?

                Nyland

Elmo Engels Mings Taylor

             Nakamba

Vassilev Grealish Hourihane Targett

              Samatta

Subs: Reina, Guilbert, Konsa, Hause, Luiz, Baston, Trez.

If McGinn is fit enough to be on the bench, he should start. He won't be.

I'd toy with putting Guilbert and Elmo in, but I worry if we go too defensively they'll hammer us, which is what happened before.

City are bloody great but we can score goals too.

I wanted Reina in, but given our league form, I'd bring Nyland in and show faith. He's done well in the competition and maybe he's the talisman.

Vassilev is your Graham Fenton wild card I assume Drummond !?

Yep!

He's got pace, which will help Elmo, and he can finish too so can press up front. I reckon there's a bit of a pass and shot in that team and we're better when we try and attack.

On another note, Man City have to focus on two games this week, we've got this one only. Hopefully that will allow us time to prepare.

Buzzing for the day but not the game, let's be honest it will be a great day out ruined by the football. We're going to get humiliated and embarrassed. Simply don't see any way in which we win the game; tactically so naive, defence is a shambles and we concede 2+ in virtually every game away from home and we're not going to score 3+.

1-5 defeat

I'll be surprised if we keep it below 5. Probably end up with a toxic atmosphere in amongst our end. Smith calling the players out, snippets coming out during the week after about how disilusioned the players are etc.

They are then awarded the game with a 3-0 score line - may be better than actually fulfilling the fixture.

Agree about the atmosphere in our end. As Ads said there was a fair bit of trouble at Southampton in the ground and by the coach park after the game, all amongst our own fans. You can already see the cameras catching our fans fighting each other in the stands for the whole country to see on Sunday. Didn't it happen before at Wembley, the Arsenal final maybe? Seem to recall pictures and videos of our fans fighting each other.
