Louie Barry was on around £35,000-a-week at Aston Villa.
@mjmarr_star

Barry's current Villa contract ran until 2029.

He'll have taken a cut to move, but he's signed a 4+1yr deal so that'll be 2030 or 2031.

Pretty sure there will be some decent performance bonuses in his deal.

Expect we've written some suitable add-ons into the deal as well as a buy back and natching  rights option too - in case he becomes the player we hoped he would be.

We were pretty unlucky not to get more for him, almost certainly would have done so if he had not had so many injuries. Still, he deserves a bit of luck, hope he does well at Wednesday.

Yes, and only having done really well so far at League One will be stopping other clubs taking a gamble.

It sounds like we have had to reduce our price so they can pay whatever reduced wages he's dropped to, and in return we will have lots of clauses in there too.

It's £2m+ on the books, though, or 20% of a Royal.

2-3m is probably right for a 23 year old that's hasn't done much anywhere other than Stockport in the bottom two divisions.

I do admit I got slightly carried away with his talents. It's my achilles heel with Villa prospects - I'm forever seduced if they have technical chops (lil' Lee, Luke Moore, Nathan Fonz, JJ... Jack was the only one with proper follow through of recent times and even he became a shadow of what we knew...).

But yeah, I did think Barry would be higher up the food chain even allowing for his many injuries. He still looks like he has the frame of a growing lad coming up against beefy second/third level tier English football league defenders.

He has been pretty popular where he has done well. I just don't think he's been able to settle at some clubs, especially when he's had an injury.

A long term deal is probably what he needs.

My Stockie-supporting mate totally loved Louie - here's hoping he has an upturn in his fortunes.

I wonder if his choice of a move to Sheffield Wednesday was helped/influenced by the fact that Wednesday's sporting director Simon Wilson, moved to Hillsborough last month after more than six years at Edgeley Park where he was CEO?
