I don''t mind them showing the Brighton goals in the interest of 'balance', but they didn't bother looking at the penalty incident. Blatant bias.
The live commentary for this was astounding. The commentary team were creaming themselves all over Brighton at 2-0, how this was going to be an amazing victory, etc. Then the peno incident - while admitting contact was made, it was apparently “just a little nick” and “not enough for a penalty”. Wasn’t aware a penalty had to be a “big foul”, but what do I know…

Yeah, it was really annoying, as is repeatedly having players that played a portion of their career in our shadow co-commentate on our games (Savage, Goodman and now Upson). You can feel any praise comming through gritted teeth.

Probably a heretical opinion, but I don't actually mind Savage. He's quite fair in his praise of Villa when commentating on our European games.

He's better than Goodman, but still shite. You can really tell the plums that never watch us play as they keep going on about how playing out from the back is going to cost us, that or our high line, completely ignorant that these things are key parts of why we've won loads of games in the last three years.

Let's be honest none of them would have a clue how to do this in practice as the game has change so much in the last 10 years.
However it is their job to keep with understanding the evolution - not that difficult. Good pundits do.

Someone earlier mentioned Murphy (couple of years back) saying why did we need a set piece coach - well because it is important nowadays. Look at Arsenal.

I agree. I like Savage as a commentator/pundit, and his comments I have heard re Villa have generally been reasonable and positive.

He's not too bad, I do think he talks like he's swallowed a coaching manual and been playing a lot of Football Manager though.

That might be because he is a qualified coach and a current manager

He’s doing alright at it too isn’t he?

I quite liked what he did to bend the rules about playing a weakened side. He made four subs in the first minute!

I’m just reading it on the yellow ticker on SSN. Slightly less painful.

Well yes I'm aware of that, but he sounds like a kid who's just learned a new bunch of words and is keen to use them as often as possible. Anyway, he comes across better than I guess many Villa fans might expect.

I note they didn't mention the European Cup win, Pongo's consistency or Drummond's new dog. Wankers.

Yeah the two dark horses I was considering betting on are both in the same group with the team that I reckon should be joint favourites. Will decide who to bet on nearer the time.
