I can’t see Hourihane getting a look in next season either

He will start if McGinn is suspended.

Our first choice central three will be Luiz-McGinn-Grealish and then as back up we have Marvellous for DM, Hourihane for either DM or box to box and can see Jota playing as the 10 if Jack is out for a spell although he's doing a good job floating in from the right currently.

Would still expect us to move Bjarni on. Think Lansbury will be given until January to try to become regular part of the 18, if not he'll probably go then as his contract will nearly be up.

Lansbury contracted until summer 2021. Big wages again thanks to Bruce and Fat Keith.

There was me naively thinking at most he signed a three and a half year deal so thought it would be up next summer, did we give Taylor same length contract given he signed in same window?

I actually find it odd clubs still give out 4-5 year deals for essentially squad players. Fair enough if it's someone like Jack who's the best player at the club and you either want to keep him at all costs or make sure he goes for a maximum fee.

However surely with the high turnover of managers now and so constant squad changes clubs should just hand out 4-5 year deals to 4-5 key players at the club e.g. Mings, Jack, McGinn, Wesley, El Ghazi.

The rest are all on 2-3 year deals and up to them to prove they deserve to be here longer term. If they don't want to sign for us then off they go. Would've been a decent tactic to save 100k from not signing Richards or McCormack anyway.

With the ‘marvellous’, magical, incredible summer we have had on the transfer front, with probably a goalie and striker still to come, then we must be offloading some of the players who are not upto it?

Who could be on the way out if the right offers came in?

For me.

Kallinic
Barney
Lansbury
Hogan
Taylor (possibly)
Green (on loan)
kodjia (possibly)

We've just built up the squad after 14 players left. You need a lot of cover in this league. Maybe one or two on loan but not another cull, no way.

But we need to submit a squad of 25 to the Premier League (I think it's 25) so some slim lining is necessary

Looking at our squad currently, omitting Douglas and Konsa (under 21).  We are about here for definites:

1 New keeper
2 Steer
3 Nyland/Kalnic
4. Guilbert
5. Elmo
6. Taylor
7 Targett
8 Tyrone
9 Hause
10 Engels
11 Chester
12 Jack
13 SJM
14 Conor
15 Marvelous
16 Jota
17 Trezeguet
18 AEG
19 Wesley
20 Kodj

That leaves 5 places.

At this moment in time, I believe that it is in his and our best interests for OHare to get game time on loan, likewise Green.  Davies would also benefit from a loan but as we speak, he would probably be needed as 3rd choice striker.

I would put Lansbury into the squad, bringing it up to 21.  One more may come in on top of a new keeper, two at a push and I would go with that, leaving 2 places for January signings if needed.

The only possible shift from that is that Kodjia, Lansbury or even Chester could leave.

This leaves BB, Bree, Tish and Hogan who we should ideally offload if we get the chance.

He's had a good couple of years in the Championship, but it's about time to ditch Bad English.

He can be cranky but will help Guilbert settle with his knowledge of French and all things France. Also, we lost Chris Jameson, Dave Cooper and Peter W last season so we need all the experience that remains.

Don’t forget Footyskillz, he has been out for a while but could offer something different from the bench.
I doubt if the opposition will be able to handle him.

Don't bother picking me. I've been told off for refusing to drift in from the left wing.

We also have the family liaison officer to replace. Losing Eastie was a cruel blow.

Makes sense in theory, but in reality I guess there is often a struggle to get the player in and apart from the odd exception people tend to be thinking optimistically about keeping them rather than being able to move them on.

Not to say it’s right but I guess that’s the reason nobody really looks at contract length when we sign players, only later on when we’re either worried about losing them or paying their wages for another 2 years.

We still have to cover cup competitions and we need some depth in the squad but we do need to move on a few more players that quite simply aren't good enough or won't get game time so there's no point keeping them on the payroll particularly if they have any value in the transfer market:

Sell:
Kalinic or Nyland
BB or Lansbury
Hogan or Kodjia
Bree
Tshibola

Loan (with buy options):
Green or RHM
O'Hare

Davis - he needs to go out of loan but I think he'll be kept in the squad to continue his development...plus we don't have any one else to cover Wes.
Chester - even if he doesn't play much, he is an excellent professional to keep around the squad particularly whilst the new players are settling in.
Hourihane - game time will be limited and he's earned a new contract, however that could equally be about making sure we get a good fee for him as much as it is about keeping him in the squad.

Since the relegation rush for the exit and our then promotion do we have any ex players, with the exception of Gardner, who have gone on to better things.

Guey certainly. Veretout almost certainly. Tarore possibly. Ayew maintained his pl status and Amarvi is doing well back in France.

In hindsight, that batch of signings weren’t as bad as the league table ultimately suggested.  It was just too big an ask for them all to gel at once whilst their English counterparts were so poor.
