Chipping it into the chest of an opponent is exactly what Bailey did, just without the subsequent chasing back.

Ah, ok, our stream was fucking shit and we missed pretty much every key moment.

Wednesday will be a better showcase of whether he can step up than the last 2 games, if he comes out of that one without people calling him out as not good enough then it might save us some money in January.
Yep, if he's not brilliant against one of the best teams in the world then we should definitely shelve him.

If you want to read it like that go ahead butthere's a whole range of options between briliant and not good enough that you've decided to ignore. That said my point was more that we played a brighton team that are pretty toothless and a palace team that are better but have mostly coasted on the back of very good form from gallagher so neither are teams where I'd have expected a DM to struggle to have an impact. Wednesday is a step up and how well he handles that will go a long way towards deciding if he can be the player we all wanted in the summer.

He was decent against Brighton and very good verses Palace.  I doubt he's the long term answer, but I've seen our entire team play poorly against Man City and if that happens again on Wednesday I won't be writing them all off.  He needs to be judged over a period of games and this is just one of them.  Of course in the unlikley event he dominates against City then that would be a big tick.  But I don't expect him to and if he doesn't I doubt that will be the deciding factor in any decison Gerrard makes.

He's fine in games were we're not going to dominate possession, when the onus is on us to open up a team sitting deep is when his limitations show up a bit.

The trouble is, none of our current three midfielders are really known for being best mates with Mr Pass.  Ramsey is all about driving forward with the ball, Nakamba will win it back and play it simple, and McGinn is all about being the attacking midfielder. When you need to slow things down, keep things steady and just retain the ball for a bit, none of them are brilliant at it. Luiz is probably the best at it, but he was horribly shit when he came on against Palace, so can’t see him starting for a while yet until he gets some fitness back.

Let's not write Palace off either.  They aren't a Cityesque team, but they were unbeaten at home and one of the form sides in the division.  Marvellous performed at a very high level against a very decent opponent.  You can only play the team in front of you, and we have been congratulating him for that not waiting for him to potentially fail in the future.

Nakamba is one of those selfless players that raise the game of the other midfielders.  His ceiling is probably 7/10 but that sort of performance will give the other two midfielders the opportunity to be 9/10.

Not that he should be excused poor performances but it might be better to judge him based on how all three players perform rather than his performance alone.

He's benefiting from having his teammates closer to him, rather than having to thread a pass which isn't his strong point. With good structure around him he can play.

he's benefiting from being told to hold position, tackle when needed then play a nice simple pass to better players - he knows his role and he's good at it - sometimes managers over-complicate it.

Does anybody remember who he did that thunderbastard tackle on in the League Cup final? Second half as I recall. If Greasy is playing, I hope Marvelous has got one of those saved up for him.

Got a lot of time for Marv, but even when he is having a good game, he is prone to make a a really poor error and usually in a dangerous area.  He is the type of player we need in that he is mobile and gets about the opposition, but we need someone with more quality on the ball.

Did a great job for us tonight. Broke up play and turned us around, if only he had a pass. Still did what he was supposed to against this opposition. Getting better.

I think he's improving at a faster rate than anyone, and it seems that Gerrard trusts him, which is probably fuelling that improvement. Good. He seems like a lovely bloke who deserves his chance.
