He looked so good at the start of the season, I was convinced we had found ourselves a nice Laursen/Mellberg clone.

Yet he looks like a carthorse in any recent appearances. His pace seems totally non existent, any quick Premier League forward will tear him to shreds.

We were defending deeper and as a unit much more. Then we decided on a high line against speed merchants and he got caught out, lost confidence. Poor management imo.

Well not according to the article which might be because he’s either carrying an injury, he’s struggling to adapt or the journalist made up the list by drawing names out of a hat.

My opinion is that like nearly all the other signings, he’s got s lot of promise but they struggle when playing all together. Think he’ll come good.

He'll be fine in the 343 alternating with Konza, alongside Mings and Hause who are the 2 that have to play most games

What has happened to Engles? Have I missed an injury he has picked up or has he gone from 2nd choice to 5th choice in Smiths eyes?

Must have done, as he played at Fulham a week ago so doubt he's picked up another injury since.

Same as Guilbert - plays well, dropped. Others play shit, start next week.

Maybe DS asks them to play shit, and he rewards players for doing as told? (joke)

Even though we were letting in too many goals, he looked quite accomplished with Mings early on.

For me without doubt our strongest centre back partnership

In a three would he be in the centre or on the right? Being in the centre would mask his pace better and also allow him to the main link/passer however Mings appears to be the talisman and organiser.  Thoughts?

Maybe he's going with Konza as he's a bit quicker. He did  do ok at the start of the season with Mings but I think a back three is the best way for us to go at the moment.

I think we're actually pretty well-off as far as centre backs go. That there are a number of combinations is good and whilst Engles and Mings looked good together early on, Hause and Konsa haven't let themselves down when they've come in.

The issue is our midfield being powderpuff and letting everyone through.

Agree with that. Chester coming in, particularly as part of a three would be fine as well. Not a lot to pick between Konsa, Engels and Hause, all pretty similar. Hause is the most 'mixed bag' as he's the best defender of the three and defends as well as Mings pretty much but gives the ball away the most when playing out of defence.

Which one literally passed the ball to Aguero last Sunday and basically said there you go mate on your way to a hat trick

or are we just pretending these things never happened
