Very excited about Douglas, a flawed home debut but there's just so much to work with. Appears to be very economical with his movement off the ball, might like to see a little more urgency when required but watching him flourish over season is something I'm looking forward to.

I noticed that too. He literally didn't appear to break sweat. He looks very composed and I'm sure will grow to become the real deal. Love than he's obviously bought in to the team and club culture, his Twitter comment last night is a credit not only to him but what's being created at Villa Park. He's loving it.

To save others:

Que orgulho de estar nesse grande clube! Que clima, que vibração, que torcida!
Infelizmente não foi o resultado que queríamos, mas pode ter certeza que vamos batalhar bastante, os resultados positivos vão aparecer! #AVFC #Dg6⚽️

What a pride to be in this great club! What a weather, what a vibe, what a cheer! Unfortunately it was not the result we wanted, but you can be sure that we will battle hard, the positive results will appear! #AVFC#Dg6⚽️

I wouldn't get used to the weather, it's going to be shit 90% of the time :-)

His goal was judged European goal of the weekend on Channel 3's "goals goals goals" tonight over here.

He loved scoring it too, he was well chuffed.

He won't get man of the match and doesn't appear much in the highlights packages, but I thought he was excellent tonight and he makes just an enormous difference to all of our play. Off the ball he's snappy without being reckless about his position, he's clever with his anticipation and gives nobody space; on the ball, calm, starts attacks, great at manipulating they opponent's press with his movement and almost never gives it away. Andre Gomes was poor in part because Doug and SJM have him zero time and space. I think we've got a real player here.

Am still not convinced he is okay but for me hasn’t got me he villa factor yet. - not physically strong enough is my concern. Okay for a wide player but not for someone playing in a he middle

Think he is an absolutely quality player who will develop and contribute more in the coming months.

He's only been the country three weeks, so not really surprising he's not yet up to scratch.  He will be though.  Nakamba too.

Give the guy time.  He's played no pre-season matches and has been over here five minutes. You can see the quality is there, it'll take a few matches for him to be fully up to speed.

He's a class act. Technically excellent, gliding around the pitch. I think every Villa fan will be madly in love with this chap by the end of the season.

He never gets knocked off the ball and looks a real player in possession.

No doubt Luiz is class. He already provides a shield for our back 5, and we’d be a much weaker team without him. As with the rest of the team, he’s only going to get better the more games we have and he’s clearly a step up in quality from Conor or Whelan in the same position (although we do miss Conor on set pieces).
