When he saw him getting off the bus
It seemed to wipe away the years
His face was older, just a little rough
But his eyes were still so clear

He drank his coffee and he hurried out
Across before he walked away
Then he approached him like a little child
Too scared for what he had to say

"Hello, Luiz,
Remember me?
Now should we part
Or stay awhile?
As if we were still lovers"

He took a moment just to recognise
The man he'd known so well before
And as he started to apologise
Lose any bitterness he bore
He gently put his finger on his lips
To let him know he understood
And with his suitcase standing on the floor
Embraced him like a lover would

He told Luiz
"You look so good
It's just you see
You make me feel
As if we were still lovers"

It's not always true that time heals old wounds
There are wounds that you don't wanna heal
The memories of something really good
something truly real, that you never found again

And though they talked for just a little time
Before he said he had to go
He saw the meeting as a tiny sign
That told him all he had to know

And so Luiz
Waved from the bus
And as he left
He gave that smile
As if they were still lovers

One of my favourites, you can’t beat some HL !!!!
Well done.

It seems he has been pining to come home, pretty much since he left.
It’s quite amazing how circumstances contrive to make things turn out like they do.

It must feel like all his hopes, dreams and wishes have come true for him.

Back to your best, quickly, please Dougie.

Love this. Just warms my heart

That's a dangerous move from Duggie, the hug. I still maintain that's what did for Harvey Elliott.

Agreed. It's not like they're tall women.

he looks so happy to be back. Like a massie weight lifted off his shoulders. And the same for Unai who after losing three massive players in the space of a few weeks needs some good news.

Perhaps he couldn't kick the ball high enough to suit Dyche.

Great to have him back - this seasons starting to feel like the climax of a long running series.  We've already had the redemption arc, now we have Favourite characters coming back just for the final act.

None of them want to miss out on us winning the lot.

Delighted he's back.  My reception would have been a bit more luke-warm had we not been in the midst of an injury crisis, but given what's happened to our midfield in the last few weeks, Dougie is just about the best midfielder we could have signed.  We know he has quality. He knows the club and the league. He knows the management and most of the players.  If we're REALLY lucky, he'll hit the ground running next to Onana, and with Barkley coming back too, we might miss Kamara/Youri/SJM a bit less than we'd all feared.

They're not going to get a lot of rest, unless Unai is comfortable playing the kids in the cup games and for decent chunks of some premier league games, so we have to keep everything crossed we can get 8 weeks of continuous fitness out of all of them!

The AVTV interview with him is very good. Calls Unai the most important coach in his life. When asked about playing at Villa Park you could see his happiness, says he couldn't sleep before signing again and he can't wait to be back out on the pitch. Hopes he plays Sunday.

Chelsea were sniffing after him as well but Dougie chose us over the bright lights of London and probably an easier ride in a Chelsea squad.

No easy ride under Unai.

Dougie means business. Welcome home.
